In the eleventh season premiere, changes abound for a shrinking Camden family in Glen Oak. Ruthie is away on a student exchange program in Scotland for the time being. Having lost her pregnancy over the summer, an emotionally unstable Lucy convinces Eric to let her deliver the Sunday sermon, but she ends up publicly blaming Kevin and everyone in her family for what happened.
In order to regain Sandy's affection, Martin takes Kevin's advice and cooks for her and takes interest in her schoolwork. But Martin isn't doing it just for her affection, he's doing it so he can sleep with her, and when Sandy discovers this she becomes more disinterested in him. Eric holds down the fort while Annie goes to New York to help Mary with her new babies. When the boys' teacher makes a pass at him, he opts to pull them out of school. Meanwhile, Kevin convinces Lucy to let Ben stay with them and Eric discovers a health problem of his own.
Eric opts to homeschool the boys rather than be subjected to their teacher, who made a pass at him. But Lucy and Kevin don't believe him and start their own investigation into the matter.
Annie returns home to three homeless teenagers living there, thanks to Eric. He also tells Annie a secret. Meanwhile, Sandy attempts to decide between Martin and a guy from school.
Annie tries to learn what Eric's been hiding from her regarding his health after paramedics rush to the house to help him. Meanwhile, Lucy checks in on Sandy who's possibly fallen for one of her classmates despite Martin's pursuit of her.
Ruthie isn't looking forward to Eric and Annie's visit to Scotland, particularly since they will be coming to bring her home. Meanwhile, Kevin tells Lucy about Eric's heart condition; and, Sandy accepts Martin's marriage proposal in order to cut loose her boyfriend; Kevin discovers Jane's big secret.
Ruthie finally agrees to return home after Eric reveals his health problems; Sandy calls off the wedding after Martin's best friend questions the integrity of her commitment; and, Lucy convinces T-Bone to emancipate himself from his mother.
Ruthie makes some ill-advised comments at the airport and gets herself, Eric and Annie into trouble with security. Meanwhile, Mac tries to figure out if Sandy's still interested in Simon as a favor to Martin; Lucy tries to keep positive regarding Eric's condition; and, T-Bone, Jane, Margaret and the Twins plan a welcome home party for Eric.
Ruthie worries about living under the same roof as T-Bone. Meanwhile, the Reverend changes tact with his congregation and counsels them with brutal honesty. While it might be working on them, it might be taking a physical toll on him.
Annie tries to keep Lucy, Ruthie and Kevin from assuming the worst when Eric doesn't come home. Meanwhile, Eric tries to figure out if he's just visiting the afterlife or about to become a spirit himself.
Ruthie and T-Bone's writing assignment on the genocide in Darfur prompts Ruthie to make a pitch to the church that it should consider donating money. Meanwhile, the Camden's try to figure out their own way of helping out with the situation. Ruthie gets tired of being treated like a little girl and decides to force the sex issue with T-Bone. Meanwhile, Martin might want to date Jane, causing Sandy to reconsider her feelings for him. And, Eric and Lucy try to avoid everybody in order to get away for a fishing trip.
The church deacons want the church sermons to appeal to a younger demographic, so they decide that Eric and Lucy are out and Sandy is in. Meanwhile, T-Bone buckles in for an intense ride as Kevin teaches him how to drive in preparation for his driver's license test.
Ruthie and T-Bone get it in their heads that the best way to express their love for each other is to get tattoos on Valentine's Day; Eric and Annie get a surprise visit from the Colonel and Ruth, who have come after learning about Eric's health problems -- which Eric never told them about; Jane gets her divorce papers; and, Sandy develops a new crush.
It's tattoo madness as Ruthie and Lucy try to hide theirs from their suspicious parents. Meanwhile, T-Bone gives Ruthie a promise ring.
Ruthie loses the stone on her promise ring and interprets it as a sign that she and T-Bone shouldn't be together. Meanwhile, Eric and Lucy interpret the presence of a black bird as an omen of impending doom.
While visiting a remote church, Lucy is offered the chance to become the congregation's new minister. Meanwhile, Ruthie tries to get her parents and T-Bone to pay for her tattoo removal; Margaret tries to get Mac interested in her by offering to write a school paper for hiim; and, Sandy discovers that Martin's seeing Jane on the side.
T-Bone makes the mistake of telling Mac that he's considering breaking up with Ruthie, because Mac decides that the best way to give his pal a clean break is to send a mass text message indicating that T-Bone and Ruthie are through. Meanwhile, Lucy and Kevin argue over moving to Crossroads; and, Kyle plagiarizes one of Margaret's papers for class.
Kevin gets cold feet about moving to Crossroads given that he and Lucy are planning for a second baby. Meanwhile, T-Bone reconsiders breaking up with Ruthie, but she is spending a lot more time with Martin. All of his worries fall to the wayside when his dad shows up on the Camden's doorstep; and, Jonathan proposes to Sandy.
Eric feels good about his heart condition, given that he's reconsidering what he wants to do with his life. There might be less physical strain in not heading a congregation. Meanwhile, Ruthie and T-Bone get back together, but that doesn't stop Martin from professing his love for her; and, Lucy announces she's pregnant.
Eric and Annie receive a "Got Well" gift from the Colonel: an RV. They see it as an opportunity to get away and travel the country, and that's exactly what they plan to do. But Lucy and Kevin are uncertain about leaving the congregation behind as well as the outstanding offer to move to Crossroads.
