    One Weak Link.

    February 25, 2008
The story is still a powerful and pertinent one. I usually don't like additions - however the grocery scene and the abortion room scene did enhance the play.

All of the acting was strong – with the exception of Diddy. It was a good try, but really Walter Lee is a hard role because the actor must make you feel the inner conflict going on. I give props for his attempt, but I am sorry to say that Diddy showed as much inner conflict as Hayden Christensen as Ani Skywalker. He came across as selfish and self centered because of how he expressed himself and brought the quality of the program down.

Chiwetel Ejiofor would have been better casting. That Brother can act and has the maturity and depth to match the Sisters in the roles.

I think that Lathan did an excellent job, but it should have gone to a younger actress (that’s a switch) she could have easily played Walter’s wife instead of his younger sister. Rashad and MacDonald are just outstanding. They nailed the parts. Their deliveries and facial expressions were deep and empathetic.

If a stronger actor played the role of Walter I would have rated this a 5 star easily.

    Thank you Felisha and cast.

    February 25, 2008
I am keeping an open mind on Mr. Coombs. i truly believe a crafted actor is best in the role to follow such a stellar perfomance of our beloved Sidney Portier. No one can follow this acting. I am not sure why all the singers are wanting to act and all the actors are being pushed aside. Every once in awhile there is a great combined actor/singer etc. Vanessa Williams -my green-eyed sister for one. We will see the results tomorrow. Felisha R. and the other great cast will no doubt make the performance a FIVE Plus! GOD IS In the HOUSE! Keep up the good work. RST in SoCAL . and Please give the REAL new actors who have studied their craft a chance next time.

    Dissapointed... and shocked at it

    February 28, 2008
    Here are my issues:

    1. It was slow. Puffy can't act to save his life. I was wondering how he got that role, but as the movie ended, I noticed that his production company Bad Boy produced the movie. That explained it, because no one else in their right mind would have put him to act - or do whatever he called that - in their movie.

    2. She's my girl an' all, but Sanaa Latham's character was annoying as all get out. I couldn't tell how old she was because of how immature she was acting. It was a part that wasn't written in well and didn't seem to mesh with the rest of the house. Like for example... how is it that they couldn't give the little boy .50 cents but she was always well dressed. Not to mention the day she came home announcing guitar lessons and had guitar in her hand. There were no questions as to where the guitar came from and who was paying for the lessons... I would have said she had her own money... but they had to save $3000 for her schooling.

    3. Why is it that they had the African American man (Puffy's Character) being portrayed in not so good a light. He was trying to hustle and curtail the process for starting a business and getting involved with shady characters who hustled him out of his family's money. Then you have the other African American man who was content with his stush lifestyle and found it satisfactory to going to work in his father's business. No foresight beyond that... he didn't even see the promise in Sanaa's character. When she tried to tell him about what she wanted to do, he wasn't even interested.
    4. In addition to #3, the African man was the Knight in shining armor that saw promise in Sanaa. He brought up the point that no one in her family saw the problem with the fact that everyone was relying on this one check that had to come as a result of someone dying...

    5. Was anyone else pissed off that they all felt entitled to this check? That was irritating me. The mother had just finished her life long job, had raised all of them and no one thought that maybe she should enjoy the money for herself... for the rest of her life. Augh! They were all so selfish... and why the HECK was Puffy's wife so excited that they bought a house. Get your own house! You and your shortcut-seeking husband and child(ren).

    6. MY BIGGEST ISSUE! Why didn't they sell the house at the end of the movie? Didn't they establish that they couldn't afford it now that the money was gone? What's gonna end up happening is they are all going to move into that house, have to work crazy amounts of jobs to just pay the mortgage... but what about the upkeep? Sure, give the white neighbors real ammunition to really start harassing them. Especially if the neighbors start to trash their property, who is going to pay for the clean up? I was talking to a co-worker and he was telling me that during that time, black people wanted their own stuff... something they could call their own - regardless of what the keep cost was. Soooo, in my estimation that started the generational curse of debt in the black family. Not cool. I was all the way with Puffy's character at the end... Sell the house for a profit immediately, and turn around and purchase something else on the same street or one street away. Then they'll have the additional money that would make the deal a bit more palatable.

    Classic

    February 26, 2008
This movie will forever be a classic. In the original I believed in each character. I feel Mr. Combs did a good job, but I was not able to feel him as Walter Lee. Which is a very important key to theis movie. Great movie non the less. The ladies did a wonderful job. I look forward to the Emmy's let's hope they are not forgotten.
