Reality TV

Almost shocking to watch in syndication because of its racial and sexist overtones, All in the Family was a very candid portrayal the impact of changing times on lower middle class America.
Archie Bunker was a true portrayal of a 60ish blue collar guy in the 1970's who wasn't able to accept a more liberal and tolerant society. The frankness with which he was portrayed by O' Connor as a fundamentally decent man with an outdated (and incorrect) view of societies mores and standards was nothing short of brilliant.
The message was loud and clear. Archie's generation (including George Jefferson for that matter) was not going to do an about face in how they viewed the world. Both of these characters were zealously lampooned at the expense of more open minded and politically correct characters whose portrayals were more reflective of modern society. Times were a changin' - too slowly for many but too rapidly for the Archie's of the world.
Brilliant. Poignant. Maybe the most important TV show ever made.

The Best . Legendary.

This show defined situation-comedy television. It tackled family issues, society issues, race, gender and generation issues with a unique dynamic and uncanny sense of humor. It definitely still holds up when you pair it with the garbage thats on TV today. The fact that you were still allowed some degree of political incorrectness in those days made for a better show, as the writers could take chances without fear of a lawsuit from every angle. In the end, Archies bigotry and ignorance was exposed for what it was, and taught us all a lesson in the process. You shall not see the likes of it again, unfortunately.

I always loved how the writers put into words everything that was going on in society at this time... You got a laugh and learned a little something at the same time!

The Tops

All in the Family is one of very few shows that changed TV forever.
From it's brilliant cast whose chemistry will never be equaled to its amazing cast of writers there will never be a show like it again.
My favorite episode ever was when Archie got locked in the basement.
The last line The Jeffersons was right still makes me laugh till I cry.

the thing i most like about archie was he always had a way to make a stero-type person feel right at home.i mean archie was a guy who only knew what he wanted to know and was not interested in no ones elses opion nor did he care if the world didnt revolve around you.the world was the way archie wanted to keep his opion from sliding under neathe the rug that didnt need claening..
