The laid-back former nanny, Brooke White, who's never seen an R-rated movie, may be one of the most unique female contestants "American Idol" has ever had. She exudes an unassuming old school, girl-next-door vibe with her bright, quirky smile and piano/guitar-playing talents. Brooke's charm and offbeat appeal is reminiscent of Season 3's redhead John Stevens. That young crooner was a big hit with the older crowd with his Sinatra-like voice and the girls loved his gentlemanly class and demeanor. Like Stevens, Brooke gives off a genuine attitude of humbleness. Her performances are sweet and simple. She doesn't try to show off and viewers believe in her endearing emotional drive to win. But in order for Brooke to get as far as Stevens did (and hopefully even further), she cannot rely on vocals alone since she's leagues behind Carly in that arena. Dubliner Carly Smithson has got a stand-out voice and she knows how to use it (as evidenced by her controversial former record deal with MCA Records), but like Season 2's talented Kimberley Locke, she just doesn't have that dynamic personality to match her singing ability, which could make it hard for her to connect with viewers and get those precious votes to take her to the top on "American Idol." Our advice? Formerly Chikezie Eze, like Cher and Madonna, he is now going by just Chikezie. This 22-year-old was one of our picks to be sent packing fairly early on "American Idol," but he has picked it up by showing off who he is and drawing in the audience with his sheer effervesence and yes, cheesiness. Chikezie = cheesy. And cheesy isn't bad, after all. Remember Taylor Hicks and his "Soul Patrol?" Shockingly, Hicks rode his screams and energy all the way to the top in Season 5 as his popularity grew and grew. If Chikezie is going to follow in Hicks' steps all the way to the grand finale, he needs to keep showing off his pearly whites, have fun and maybe come up with a catchy nickname. David Archuleta has that (dare we say?) winning combination of a magnificent voice, likable personality and youthful exuberance that's quickly made him a fan favorite. We can't help but see the similarities between David A. and "American Idol" Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken. But will David A. end up going as far on "Idol" and in his singing career as the now-famous Clay? Right off the bat, David Cook channeled Season 5's "American Idol" resident rocker Chris Daughtry. With his scruffy goatee and messy hair, David C. has proven to the judges and America that he's a risk taker. His unique twist of Lionel Richie's hit "Hello" during '80s week solidified him as an actual rock star just like when Daughtry wowed viewers with his cover of Johnny Cash's classic "I Walk the Line." David C. has been a standout performer since then and he may just be the one to beat. His voice isn't as consistent or as strong as Daughtry's, so David C. will have to distract America with his guitar-playing and bold song choices. The soft-spoken Jason Castro seems to be flying under the radar, happily coasting along quietly so far this season on "American Idol." Similarly, Season 5's Elliott Yamin was the mild-mannered quiet guy who quickly rose through the ranks and wound up all the way in third place. Will Jason meet the same fate? To start, he should shed his shy demeanor in order to get viewers to stand up and take notice of his talent. Kristy Lee Cook, known as the fresh-faced cage fighter and horse trainer who sold her prized horse for a ticket to the "American Idol" auditions, has taken heed of Simon's advice and claimed the role of this season's country singer. Ever since she nailed "Amazing Grace," Kristy has been heading in a downhill spiral on the edge of elimination. Heard that story before? Season 5's Kellie Pickler was the cute country gal from the South who skirted through the competition, despite her ill-suited song choices and pitch problems. She won over viewers with her naïve interview packages and ditsy-blonde sense of humor. Similar to Pickler, Kristy's strange admittance of drinking out of dog bowls may have been just the thing that's keeping her in the competition. Who doesn't love a hot girl who can make you laugh? Aussie heartthrob Michael Johns has the voice, the looks that make the females' hearts go pitter patter, and the confidence to succeed on "American Idol." Michael reminds us very strongly of Season 4's heartthrob Constantine Maroulis, who gave those agonizingly long looks into the camera, playing off his good looks and obvious charm. Both men started off strong, but it'll be interesting to see if Michael goes farther than Maroulis did (the Greek god finished 6th in his season). Some words of wisdom for Michael if he wants to win this year: Mix up the style/flavor of his song choices a little more. His crowning moment so far was his unique take on Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" during Hollywood Week. He needs to get back to that type of uniqueness if he wants to advance much more in the competition. Twenty-year-old Ramiele Malubay may be pint-sized, but she's got a big powerhouse voice and has quickly become a fan favorite on "American Idol," even though her personality seems to be a bit lacking. Ramiele brings up memories of Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee, who could belt no doubt, but really didn't seem to have the charisma or pizzazz that the eventual winner (Tayor Hicks) did. If Ramiele wants to capitalize on her big, soulful voice to the full extent, she needs to show some more personality on the show, some more zest. Sassy Syesha Mercado reminds us of "American Idol" Season 3 champ, the feisty Fantasia Barrino, in more ways than one. Both have a stellar stage presence, a soulful sound, and both have the acting bug. While Fantasia recently starred in Broadway's "The Color Purple," Syesha loves the theater too, and performed in high school productions of "Seussical the Musical" and "Pippin." We're sure Syesha is hoping to follow in Fantasia's winning footsteps.
