Angel moves to Los Angeles to find a renewed sense of purpose, where he meets a demon named Doyle who is plagued by visions. Angel reunites with Cordelia when he bumps into her at a party, and soon finds himself in an ongoing confrontation with the firm of Wolfram & Hart.
Doyle's violent premonition leads the gang to a club where Angel meets police officer Kate. Together they persue a serial killer who turns out to be a demon parasite.
Oz pays a visit from Sunnydale to bring Angel a gem that will allow him to walk in daylight. Angel ultimately destroys the gem when it seems it may fall into the wrong hands.
Angel and Cordelia go to see a young woman that Doyle has surmised from a vision is in distress. They learn the woman is being stalked by a demonic neurosurgeon who preys on people and proceed to go after him. When the woman offers to pay Angel and Cordelia, the two decide to start charging their clients.
Cordelia decides to abandon her roach-infested apartment in the projects for Angel's pad, but Angel wants her out. He offers Doyle assistance with his debt if Doyle can find Cordelia a great one-bedroom apartment. Doyle manages to do so, only Cordelia soon finds out that strange things are happening in her new place, and that it comes with a very dark history.
Kate goes into sensitivity training with the rest of her police precinct, but Angel and the others soon realize she seems to be overly-emotional. Pretty soon, so is the entire department, and Angel decides to do some investigating into the sensitivity class teacher.
Doyle's estranged wife shows up to ask for a divorce from him so she can marry her new love. After granting her the request, her fiance invites Doyle to his bachelor party where he plans to eat Doyle's brain as part of a marriage ritual.
Buffy comes to confront Angel about his lack of contact with her during a secret visit to Sunnydale. Feeling the stress of Doyle's premature death, Angel and the gang go to visit a young family based on a vision of Cordelia's, during which time they help rid a little boy of an ancient, evil demon which has possessed him.
In the midst of receiving memories about himself and his father from long ago, Angel tracks a demon on the streets who has been selling a powerful narcotic. After Kate sees her father enter the scene of a crime involving the demon, Angel deduces he may be involved with the drug's sale.
After a demon comes to Angel, Wesley, and Cordelia asking them to track down his brother who may have been kidnapped by a bookie, the subsequent investigation leads them to a hidden fight club ring involving slave demons. She is soon snapped up by the firm into taking down Angel, and she manages to begin by corraling Wesley and slowly attemping to bring her captive to death, which brings Angel to his rescue and into a violent showdown with Faith.
While Wesley considers an offer to redeem himself and regain his watcher's status by offering up Faith to the council, Buffy comes to Los Angeles hoping to extract justice against Faith, while claiming to be saving Angel, only to learn, amazingly, that he is protecting an emotionally weary and mentally fragile Faith.
While caught between a turf war between local street kids and vampires, Angel comes to know Charles Gunn, a wary and goal-minded vampire hunter who wants to see the city of Los Angeles rid of its evil as much as Angel does.
Angel asks for Gunn's assistance in helping hacker Lindsey McDonald invade Wolfram & Hart's files in order to save several child targets of a near-blind demon-killer. During the mission, Angel learns that his presence in the firm may have been foretold, but Lindsey proves unable to completely turn against the firm to complete the mission.
Angel learns of his eventual fate when Wesley manages, after much work, to translate the prophecy that foretold his coming in a scroll. Meanwhile, Wolfram & Hart tries to retrieve the scrolls by unleashing a demon to eliminate Angel, as well as Cordelia and Wesley.
