Dr. Bacevich's interview was superb
August 29, 2008
Not beholden to a corporate ownership. Nearly all media today are held by conglomerates that have as much interest in controlling the message as any dictator or president-emperor.
PBS is one exception. Bill uses this forum intelligently, urgently and gracefully to bring attention to the many "elephants in the room" that the corporate media have no interest in addressing- national debt, triumphant militarism, fearmongering, the already huge and growing disparity between rich and poor...
Dr. Bacevich was painfully credible - a distinguished former soldier whose dearly beloved soldlier-son lost his life in Iraq. A conservative "values" holder, his white-hot anger still showed through, as did his love and concern for his great nation. Like many many of us, I suspect, he still loves the idea of America, and the deeds, and words, of the greatest of his fellow citizens - Lincoln, Washington, King... And I believe he mourns for the burial of the spirit of these exemplars of what humankind has risen to in his country beneath venality, deception and arrogance.
Bill's empathy and genuine curiosity for what his guests have to say always brings out the best in them. Bill, this guest and this interview were also exemplars of what the medium can rise to when truly free speech and truly human, rather than corporate, values are given free range.

The Last Oracle
October 17, 2008
When I first became aware of the intrigue of American politics, it seemed that there were just two sides to all issues--the intelligent side and the stupid side. Eric Sevareid represented the cogent, articulate teacher who explained the best angle from which to view the issues, and I eagerly awaited his comments at the end of the news each evening. Since he left us and I am older now, it is harder to see things so clearly. Events and people are more complicated, and the tricksters have grown in skill. We are lucky to have Mr. Moyers' high-minded views and scholarship to illuminate the shadows and blow aside the smoke. It would be lovely to have an 'afterword' from him at the end of a network newscast. There are so many blowhards who seem to have their own agendas and Mr. Moyers is an oasis of calm in the storm.

Smart Man, Smart Show

Bill Moyers is the best journalist in the media right now and his show has thoughtful and informed dialogue unlike a lot of shows on Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc... Whoever you are JKR8, your stupidity is laughable.

Pablum Puke at its best

Bill Moyer is just another clueless ideologue who wants to think he's a journalist. Put a wig on him and you have Joy Behar. The word integrity is not in his vocabulary. He picks only left wing nuts to provide their commentary as if it were fact and never questions it. What a journalist!! HAHAHA.

Remember fairness & thoughfulness in public talk?
July 10, 2009
We would be a better society if the current media and its consumers stopped calling names, serving up the little they know as if it were a meaningful answer to a situation or issue, and "\tuning in" only to those who share their views. This show is an example of what we should all try to put into our discussions of public issues and, to me, shows why funding PBS by governmental bodies is owed to us by those who've given the public airwaves to people whose agendas are personal. The sad part is that there's little on the horizon to continue the tradition, unless one searches thousands of blogs that reach limited audiences, and the people who do that are usually looking to share or support their already-formed views. Instead, we need thoughtful, courteous dialogue after we've done some homework, and this is a gem of an example.
