Celebs Go Back to the Grind on 'Oprah'

By Lizbeth Scordo | Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 7:24 AM

Oprah returns to the news desk!
George Burns, Harpo Inc.

Unless you're a child or Paris Hilton, you've probably had a job in your lifetime. More than likely, you've had a few. And as the years go by, many of us start looking back on our first, often awful, jobs with as sense of fondness:

"I was young -- so what if the pay stunk?"

"I met my best friend/summer fling/future business partner there!"

"I can't believe I made it through that first day without getting fired!"

But what if you went a step beyond the nostalgia and actually went back to your old workplace and tried to do your old job… now?

That's exactly what Oprah Winfrey, country star Martina McBride, financial guru Suze Orman, and actress Kirstie Alley did -- and documented -- for today's "Oprah" show.

So how'd the ladies do? Tune in this afternoon to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of what it's like to go back to a job you left behind decades ago. And get a sneak peek of Oprah's, Martina's, and Suze's experiences here.

Like a lot of American teens, Martina McBride landed her first job as an ice cream server at Dairy Queen. See how the country crooner dealt with drive-through patrons decades later.

Before she gave out financial advice for a living, Suze Orman was socking away her paychecks as a short-order cook slinging hash at a diner. Now, she heads back to the kitchen to focus on a different kind of currency -- silver dollar pancakes.

Leave it to a billionaire media mogul to list "news anchor in a major market" as her cutesy first job of yesteryear. Check out how the queen of talk did when she left A-list interviews behind to go back to reporting the little local stories of the day.

Talk About It: What was your first job? And do you think you could do it again?
