The Most Annoying Characters on TV Ever

Does Sookie bug you too?
HBO/Jaimie Trueblood

We love the addictive "True Blood," but lead character Sookie Stackhouse has to be one of the most irritating fictional creations currently on television. She's just so dumb, gets herself in the most ridiculous situations possible, and breaks up with her undead boyfriend at least once an episode to boot. But despite that, she's not quite the worst of the last 20 years. If our top ten list of the most annoying went to eleven, she'd make the cut. But as it is, she was edged out by another Sookie. See for yourself:

10. Sookie ("Gilmore Girls")

No one can really be so happy-go-lucky all the time. She wasn't not as stupid as some of the folks on this list, but her irrational exuberance for life was hard to take. And she was basically just around to help move the story forward.

9. Dawn ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer")

She wasn't not even Buffy's real sister! Instead, she was just the most irksome teen on the planet. The monks that created her apparently were too busy trying to hide her to worry about making someone who wasn't obnoxious and incapable.

8. Carrie ("Sex and the City")

Charlotte and her constant crying and whining were practically suicide-inducing, but Carrie eventually earned the spot on this list with her self-centered behavior and her inability to ever behave like a grownup, despite the fact that she was in her thirties.

7. Cousin Oliver ("The Brady Bunch")

This whiny, obnoxious character was brought in to up the cuteness factor when the original full house of kids hit puberty and lost their adorableness. He'll probably be on every list of annoying TV characters from now to the end of time.

6. Ally McBeal ("Ally McBeal")

She got stuck in a toilet. She hallucinated dancing babies. She couldn't get her life together. But yet, she expected people to trust her with their legal woes? It's a good thing those micro-miniskirts distracted the judges because this infant in an adult body should not have been allowed out of the house without supervision.

5. Kate ("Lost")

Normally we're all about sexy murderous women who are on the lam and stop at nothing to get what they want. But Kate makes that classic archetype look weak and pouty. She makes bad decisions, always seems so put upon, and spends her time finding new and unusual ways to get into trouble and pit Jack and Sawyer against each other.

4. Kimmy Gibbler ("Full House")

Kimmy wasn't even part of the family. She was just a friend, and sometimes not even that, but she was always around and very vividly dressed. This is one neighbor they really should have locked the doors to keep out.

3. Screech ("Saved by the Bell")

He was a suck-up who just desperately wanted to be one of the cool kids, but his ridiculous plots and schemes often ended up causing more problems than solving them. With a friend like Screech, who needs an enemy?

2. Ross ("Friends")

Nothing annoys us more than when a smart guy is really, really stupid. And not in that geeky, socially awkward "Big Bang Theory" kind of way, but in the way that makes us wonder how that person manages to function on a daily basis and why anyone would be friends with him.

1. Fran Fine ("The Nanny")

It wasn't just the voice that drove us crazy. It was also the laugh. Good lord, that laugh still haunts our nightmares. Fran Drescher's performance as the brassy and grating nanny drove us completely bananas for six long painful seasons, and thanks to syndication, she'll drive more viewers crazy for generations to come.
