    • TV pilot season: 'Beverly Hills Cop,' Rebel Wilson, and Andy Samberg on the way to primetime for fall 2013

Fall 2012's new TV series offerings proved to be underwhelming at best. But with every winter there comes a new TV pilot season, and with it a new crop of contenders to become our next must-see series.

This year, call us naive, but the pilots the networks have greenlit so far sound promising, by and large, and feature the return of several stars we would be happy to welcome back to our TVs every week.

A pilot order, of course, doesn't mean the show is guaranteed to become a series, but here are the most interesting pilots the networks have ordered so far. Which ones get your vote for most likely to live on to a series order?

      CBS

"Beverly Hills Cop": Eddie Murphy will co-produce and make a cameo appearance; "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan will produce; and "Tropic Thunder" star Brandon T. Jackson will star as the son of Axel Foley, Murphy's iconic movie character.

    • Super Bowl commercials: Amy Poehler's gonna sell you a Best Buy cell phone

She's gotten engaged on "Parks and Recreation," she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and she successfully co-hosted the Globes with BFF Tina Fey. And for her next trick, Amy Poehler's going to sell you a cell -- a cell phone, that is -- during Super Bowl XLVII.

Poehler will star in Best Buy's commercial, which will debut during the first quarter of the February 3 NFL championship game. The 30-second spot was recently filmed in Los Angeles.

Oscar nominee Bryan Buckley, who's directed more than 40 Super Bowl ads in the past decade (including ones starring Conan O'Brien, Burt Reynolds, Ozzy Osbourne, and Will Ferrell), helmed Poehler's ad, and while the commercial's theme is being kept hush-hush, a photo of Poehler on the set shows her standing amid rows of cell phones.

Director Bryan Buckley talks about his famous Super Bowl spots:

    • 'The Walking Dead' preview: Rick vs. the Governor -- it's on! [Video]

Valentine's Day will come early for "Walking Dead" lovers, as the AMC drama returns on February 10 with an episode that promises to pick up right where we left off in December: an imminent showdown between Rick Grimes and the Governor.

A new preview video shows all-out war between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his prison dwellers and the Governor (David Morrissey) and his minions. Much violence ensues in the clip, which culminates with a face-to-face meeting between Rick and the Governor in what appears to be a Woodbury location.

[Related: The Governor's seeking 'an eye for an eye' in 'Walking Dead' poster]

Along the way, we also see the Governor (aka Philip) telling girlfriend (and former Team Rick ally) Andrea (Laurie Holden) that he won't be blindsided again. Meanwhile -- SPOILER ALERT -- everybody's favorite zombie-surviving Dixon brother, Daryl (Norman Reedus), has apparently escaped from Woodbury and is seen warning Rick that the Governor is gunning for him.

    • 'Dallas': A preview of Season 2 and a catch-up guide to Season 1

It's impossible to mention TNT's revamp of "Dallas" without touching on the sudden passing of series star Larry Hagman, who died of complications from leukemia last November 23.

Fortunately for fans of the show and of the TV icon, Hagman had already filmed the first five episodes of Season 2 (which premieres on January 28), and his presence will continue to be felt throughout the season, and, it's safe to say, the rest of the series run.

"Dallas" executive producer Cynthia Cidre has even written Hagman's death into the show, as the March 11 episode, the eighth installment of Season 2, will bring back several faces from the original "Dallas" run as friends, family, and enemies gather in Dallas for J.R. Ewing's funeral.

It's a rare occasion that a classic TV star and the character he or she played get a contemporary onscreen sendoff, so viewers of the original and new series certainly have reason to tune in for the special

    • TV on DVD: A long-awaited TV-on-DVD drama is finally being released … is it your favorite?

Is your favorite TV show of all time available on DVD? Most likely, the answer is yes, as even the most obscure one-season shows (hello, "Street Hawk: The Complete Series") have been given the box set treatment.

But there are shows that, years after they left network airwaves, have yet to get a DVD release. This week, we're running down a list of some of the most wanted TV-on-DVD releases, as well as, in one case, some very good news for fans.

First, a note on what often leads to the delay in shows being released on DVD: Usually it's a licensing issue, and most often that involves music. One show that fans have been clamoring for is the Emmy-, Peabody-, and Golden Globe-winning Fred Savage dramedy "The Wonder Years." A Fox Home Entertainment representative tells Yahoo! TV of the 1988-93 series -- which made its debut in the coveted post-Super Bowl spot in 1988 -- there are "no confirmed plans to release 'The Wonder Years' on DVD."

    • 'The Americans': Watch the opening sequence for FX's new Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys drama [Video]

Felicity Porter, spy girl?! Well, that was the idea that led "Felicity" creator J.J. Abrams to come up with "Alias," but in this instance, we're talking about Felicity herself, Keri Russell, and her new FX drama "The Americans."

[Related: 5 new dramas we can't wait to watch this winter]

The series, which premieres on FX on Jan. 30, stars Russell as a Russian KGB agent who is paired with another agent (played by "Brothers and Sisters" alum Matthew Rhys) to marry, move to the United States, and pretend to be an American couple, all in the name of carrying out their spy duties.

When we're first introduced to Elizabeth and Phillip Jennings, they're happily (or so it seems) ensconced in suburbia with two kids, a nice house and, of course, a huge secret identity that's threatened by a new neighbor Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent whose specialty is tracking down foreign spies on American soil.

    • 'The Biggest Loser' recap: When the trainers are away ….

SPOILER ALERT: The recap for the "Pay It Forward" episode of "The Biggest Loser" contains contestant spoilers.

While the contestants at the "Biggest Loser" ranch are still dealing with losing one of their competitors from last week's weigh-in, host Alison enters the house and drops another shocker on them: Three more people are leaving the ranch!

Yes, they were freaking out too, but only because they forgot about the rule of reality TV fake-outs. Yes, three more people were leaving the ranch: Dolvett, Jillian, and Bob, the "BL" trainers, who would be MIA for the week of ranch training while they went off for surprise home visits to this season's teen contestants.

The contestants were understandably concerned about how well they'd fare on their own, particularly Pam and Danni, the sole members of Jillian's White Team, and Jackson, the sweet Red Team member who's been working hard but has been plagued by illness and low weight-loss totals for the last couple of weeks.

    • 'Legit': Watch the complete series premiere of FX's new comedy [Video]

Warning: though FX's latest comedy is about a family, it is in no way suitable for family viewing, unless every member of your family is at least 18. At least.

Australian comedian Jim Jefferies stars in "Legit," playing a version of himself who lives with his best friend Steve (Dan Bakkedahl), and Steve's brother, wheelchair-bound Billy (DJ Qualls), who has muscular dystrophy, can feel nothing below his neck, and has never had sex.

Enter Jim, who, in an attempt to fulfill his mother's request that he stop living such a hedonistic lifestyle and try to go "legit" instead, decides to help Billy by taking him on a road trip to a brothel to lose his virginity.

All does not go smoothly in preparation for Billy's big day, however, and suffice it to say that he and Jim get personal in a way neither of them anticipated.

The series, which premiered on FX on Jan. 17 and will include 13 episodes for its first season, is a fitting Thursday night partner to the network's hilarious,

    • 'The Biggest Loser' recap: Trapped in a junk food jail and bubblegum pit

SPOILER ALERT: The recap for the "Cut the Junk" episode of "The Biggest Loser" contains contestant spoilers.

There was nothing subtle about the takeaways from the "Cut the Junk" episode of "The Biggest Loser," but it was a particularly effective episode in showing the ills of making bad eating choices and of inactivity.

The teams -- five members on the Red Team, five members on the Blue Team, but just Pam and Danni remaining on trainer Jillian Michaels's White Team -- are led into a special room and given a statistic to start the installment: The average kid in America spends 4.5 hours sitting in front of a screen of some sort every day (TV, video games, etc.).

The room that the contestants are in, by the way, is filled with computers, video games, vending machines, and big comfy chairs, as well as trays and trays of junk food: doughnuts, cookies, candy, pizza, chips, and bottles of colorful soda.

And, bombshell, in keeping with one of the season's themes of tackling childhood

    • Yahoo! TV Q&A: 'Revenge of the Nerds' stars Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong on 'King of the Nerds'

They are the kings of the nerds, the godfathers of geeks, so who better to host TBS's new reality series "King of the Nerds" than beloved "Revenge of the Nerds" stars Robert "Lewis" Carradine and Curtis "Booger" Armstrong?

But the co-stars and friends are more than the show's hosts; they came up with the idea for a reality competition revolving around nerds, so they're doing double duty as hosts and executive producers on the series.

"King of the Nerds" details: Eleven male and female geeks move into a tricked-out pop culture palace -- dubbed Nerdvana -- and compete in various nerd-friendly challenges (more on those below, but giant chess pieces and cosplay are, of course, involved) with the goal of winning a $100,000 grand prize and the chance to sit in the Throne of Games and be called the King of Nerds.

The contestants have serious nerd cred: Nerd girl Alana owns thousands of Batman comics and is an expert on all things Caped Crusader, MIT grad student Hendrik is researching
