COVERAGE OF THE 64th EMMY AWARDS

Best Emmy moments of the night from social media

1. #Emmys sees @SarahPalinUSA from its house
She may have taken a backseat during the 2012 campaign season but the memory of Sarah Palin loomed large at the Emmy Awards with HBO's "Game Change" winning two major votes from the Academy electorate.

Pols entrenched in this year's presidential campaign couldn't resist weighing in. Senator John McCain's daughter and prolific tweeter Meghan McCain retweeted the observation that "Game Change" was "75% SNL sketches and news clips." Not originally dramatic enough for you, @McCainBlogette? Meanwhile, veteran Democratic political strategist Donna Brazile couldn't resist a good Russia joke.

2. Wuz the littlest Lannister robbed?
Peter Dinklage and "Game of Thrones" fans were quick to express their dismay with the little Lannister's snub in light of Aaron Paul's win for "Breaking Bad." We especially enjoyed this old chestnut of a .gif http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17pr4gcf28kxfgif/cmt-medium.gif Not to mention the many screencaps and red carpet instagrams of Dinklage looking pissed.

P.S. #HeadsWillRoll
3. "Sherlock" wins for most .GIFs
If a program could win an Emmy based purely on volume of fan-created .gifs, Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal in "Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia" would have crushed Kevin Costner's win for "Hatfields and McCoys." Tumblr shook with F-bombs. Tweetdeck crashed (at least in the @YahooTV newsroom) due to fury .gifs. Our personal favorites: Wrong. Vicarious venting, Sherlockians! And a number of Sherlock fans had this to say: $%&^!

4. Reddit weighs in: "Meh."

So basically, the ceremony in summation:

  • Modern Family
  • Homeland
  • Game Change

5. Heidi Klum wins most retweeted photo (300+ RTs)
There's something about a newly single gorgeous entrepreneurial blonde in the back of a limo wearing a chiffon dress slit up to here that inspired over 300 tweeters to share Heidi Klum's photo on Twitter:

Bonus round!

It was late. The @ABC_Publicity crew was tired.

That's the only explanation for confusing "Two and a Half Men" star Jon Cryer for "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons backstage at the Emmy Awards, broadcast by, uhhhh, ABC. The confusion was amplified when the publicity department's Instagram was tweeted from the official account which has 34k followers.
