Does the bell toll for "Glee"? The once-beloved musical-comedy was dissed by Emmy voters on Thursday morning, a sign that it may be falling out of favor in Hollywood.
The Fox series was nominated for just three Emmy Awards, none of which were in high profile categories. (And no, we don't view Outstanding Non-Prosthetic Makeup for a Single-Camera Series as high profile. Sorry.)
The show, created by Ryan Murphy, was once an Emmy darling. In past years, stars Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch (who won in 2010), and Matthew Morrison were all nominated. This year, the show's only acting nominee is Dot Marie Jones, who scored a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
That's not to say the show is no longer popular. It continues to be a force on iTunes and routinely draws big searches on Yahoo!. However, "Glee's" days of being the show everybody talks (and sings) about appear to be behind it. Whether the show's upcoming fourth season will be its last remains to be seen.
Don't cry for show creator Murphy, though. His other baby, "American Horror Story," was nominated for 17 Emmys this year, which tied it with "Mad Men" for the most noms. Out with the Gleeks, in with the ghosts.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 23 on ABC at 8 p.m.
