Moore of HBO's "Game Change" is a frontrunner in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category. Moore played former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin to considerable acclaim. People magazine raved for Moore, saying, "Her Palin from moment to moment is absolutely real —- but always open to interpretation."
While Moore is a favorite, she'll face a challenge from Nicole Kidman, who was also nominated for her work on "Hemingway & Gelhorn." Kidman won the best actress Oscar in 2003 for "The Hours" (beating out Moore in "Far From Heaven"). Other Hollywood stars nominated include Ashley Judd for "Missing" and Thompson for "The Song of Lunch." The mass of movie stars on TV further proof that TV is becoming more prestigous.
But wait -- there's more! "Hatfields & McCoys" scored a massive number of nominations, including one for Oscar-winner Kevin Costner. The Western miniseries earned tremendous ratings when it aired on History earlier this year. The three-part series, which also starred Bill Paxton, was the "top-rated entertainment telecasts ever for ad-supported basic cable," according to History.
