CBS's new high-tech thriller "Person of Interest" gets a snazzy new opening sequence this week that sheds some light on the all-powerful Machine that drives the show's storylines.

The Machine, for those who don't know, is a massive surveillance database developed by billionaire Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson) that uses pattern analysis to predict crime. The new opening utilizes cool high-speed photography and zoom-in graphics to demonstrate The Machine's ability to instantly analyze a person's threat level, while Finch explains how he recruited former special agent John Reese (Jim Caviezel) to use The Machine's data to stop crimes before they happen.

Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman hope the title sequence will help new viewers dive right into what can be a very complex show. "There are some nuances to [the show], and we don't want anyone getting 'Lost,' if you'll pardon the pun," says Plageman, referring to "Interest" producer J.J. Abrams' iconic hit. "So the idea is to tee it up each week so you can jump right into it." (By the way, the ominous percussive theme that plays underneath the titles? That was composed by none other than Abrams, who actually composed the themes for his previous shows "Lost" and "Alias" as well.)

The new opening titles make their debut Thursday night, but we've got an exclusive first look at them for you right here, along with a sneak peek at this week's all-new episode:

"Person of Interest" airs Thursdays at 9pm ET on CBS.
