Many longtime "American Idol" fans were surprised when the Original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, signed up this year to be a guest mentor on "Idol's" rival show, NBC's "The Voice." And they were of course even more shocked when it was announced, soon after, that Kelly would be a regular judge on ABC's new singing competition, "Duets"--which premieres May 24, the day after the "Idol" Season 11 finale. And now that ABC's new "Duets" promo has debuted, here's another big surprise: The ad actually quite openly mocks "American Idol."

The Queen Extravaganza, a one-of-a-kind official Queen tribute band sanctioned by Queen's own Brian May and Roger Taylor, made its grand television debut Thursday night on "American Idol," joined by surprise guests Brian and Roger themselves. And after the show, Extravaganza members Marc Martel, Tristan Avakian, and Jennifer Espinosa headed backstage with their superstar mentors to talk with Yahoo!'s Reality Rocks about the performance, with Brian declaring, "It felt good! We had a lot of fun up there, and having fun is a big part of it. [Roger and I] were only on for like, 40 seconds--but it was the best 40 seconds of my life, what can I tell ya!"American Idol, The Day After: Top 6 Results Dish

photo: FoxWhile Elise Testone was undeniably one of this "American Idol" season's most talented ladies, for some reason she never quite established the solid voter base of some of her fellow contestants, and she therefore came harrowingly close to elimination week after week and week--until this week, when she finally did go home in sixth place. Speaking backstage with Yahoo!'s Reality Rocks immediately after this Thursday's results show, she jokingly theorized that her stern default facial expression might have been a turnoff ("It looks bad, right?"), or "Maybe it's because I'm old" (at age 28, Elise is this year's oldest finalist). But more seriously, when asked if she thought the fact that she often stood up for herself had anything to do with her downfall (sassing back to the judges usually backfires, especially for female contestants), Elise answered, "I think that could be true--but I don't regret it for a second."‘Idol’ Top 6 Results: Another One Bites The Dust

This week's bottom twoAfter 58 million "American Idol" votes--almost 10 million more votes than the same time last season--were tallied this week, Elise Testone finally went home in sixth place this Thursday night. This was hardly as shocking as last week's elimination of Colton Dixon, or the near-elimination of Jessica Sanchez the week before, especially considering that Elise had seemingly been in the bottom three as many times as Joshua Ledet had received standing ovations this season. But still, the fact that America never truly developed an appreciation for Elise's talents was definitely worthy of an eyebrow-raise.
