photo: FoxOther ballet dancers, like Season 3's Danny Tidwell, Season 5's Melissa Sandvig, and Season 7's Alex Wong, went far on "So You Think You Can Dance"--but it was Season 9's Eliana Girard and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp who were the first to pirouette all the way to the "SYTYCD" winners' circle, when the two talented ballet specialists were historically crowned co-ed champions on Tuesday's finale. This was not only a victory for Eliana and Chehon, but also for the art form of ballet, which rarely receives such mainstream TV exposure, and also for "SYTYCD," which struggled through a season of unfortunate format changes and hiatuses this year, but ultimately emerged with two franchise-boosting winners of which Fox and judge/producer Nigel Lythgoe can be extremely proud.

By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks – Tue, Sep 18, 2012 3:26 PM PDTLast night, "The Voice" continued apace, although the night's proceedings were somewhat overshadowed by Monday afternoon's breaking news that Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are planning to take a hiatus next year and will be replaced for Season 4's cycle by Usher and Shakira. However, there were at least a couple of Blind Auditions that had me and my "Day After" cohort and co-host, Matt Whitfield, still extremely excited about Season 3.

Melanie Martinez wows with her auditionOn Monday, news broke that "The Voice's" Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will go on hiatus in Season 4 to focus on, you know, their actual non-"Voice" careers. But we're still only a few episodes into Season 3, of course--so that same day, Xtina, Cee Lo, and their cohorts Adam Levine and Blake Shelton were all back on NBC, scouting and spinning for some new talent. How invested Xtina and Cee Lo actually were on the show was up for debate. Christina already seemed in full promotion mode for her November comeback album, Lotus (a snippet for her new video "Your Body" aired during Monday's episode), and she barely turned her chair around at all. Meanwhile, Cee Lo had his usual difficulty convincing anyone to join his team--at least until the very end of the episode, when he finally scored a major frontrunner for Team Cee Lo.That all being said, I was more invested in "The Voice" than ever before, thanks to one contestant who was THE first blind-auditioner this season to truly excite me. If "The Voice" can still keep giving exposure to amazing young talents like Melanie Martinez, then I won't really care who is judging this show.

The current "Voice" castYou have to hand it to "The Voice." Last week, the show added a third Wednesday episode to ruin "The X Factor's" big premiere night. And now, with the new "American Idol" and "X Factor" judges having had hardly any time to bask in their publicity, already "The Voice" is stealing both shows' thunder once again--with breaking news that two new singularly named superstar judges, Shakira and Usher, will replace Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green for Season 4. Both Christina and Cee Lo will be back for Season 5 in fall 2013, according to NBC.
