The Show Must Go On: Queen & Adam Lambert Book Two New London Gigs

Lambert & Queen at the 2011 MTV EMAsAttention, U.S. Glamberts: Don't get that refund on your July plane tickets to London just yet, because Queen and Adam Lambert, aka "Queenbert," will still be joining forces across the pond this summer for your entertainment. Following the sad and sudden cancellation of Britain's entire Sonisphere rock festival, where an Adam-fronted Queen lineup had been booked to headline on July 7, it has just been announced that Queenbert will instead thrillingly play two gigs at London's Hammersmith Apollo, on July 11 and 12.

The Hammersmith Apollo, formerly the Hammersmith Odeon, is a venue that Queen's classic Freddie Mercury lineup famously rocked multiple times in the '70s, including four sold-out shows in 1975 and a legendary Christmas Eve concert that recently aired on the BBC and will soon be officially released on DVD. "Somehow this feels right--the Odeon is a big part of our history, and its atmosphere is second to none. It's the perfect place to acknowledge our faithful fans, and will be a fitting return to our roots," says Queen guitarist Brian May.

Explains Queen drummer Roger Taylor: "We had made up our minds to play in the U.K. this year, so play we will! Following the collapse of the Sonisphere organization, we didn't want to let down all those people expecting to see us live." Says Adam: "I'm so thrilled that Queen found a way to ensure that the fans will get to see this event this summer. I can't wait to be in London to perform with Queen for these incredibly special shows!"

The shows are sure to be special indeed. Adam's collaboration with Queen on the Season 8 "American Idol" finale was possibly the best finale performance in the series' history, and when Adam reunited with Brian and Roger two and a half years later at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast, that gob-smacking performance whetted fans' appetites for even more "Queenbert" duets.

Watch Adam's November 2011 EMAs tour de force with Queen below to get an idea of what to expect at this summer's sure-to-be-amazing Hammersmith gigs, while I excuse myself and head over to Yahoo! Travel to look into U.K. flights...
