Snackin’ With Sarah Sellers: ‘Idol’ Top 10 Night Viewing Nosh

Season 10's Sarah SellersDiehard "American Idol" viewers will remember Sarah Sellers as the geek-chic food blogger who made it to Hollywood Week last year. (Watch her Season 10 audition here.)  Sarah has since continued her food-blogging, and has been cooking up scrumptious snack suggestions for any "Idol" viewing party and posting them here in Reality Rocks each week. She was also my special guest on a special SXSW version of "The Day After" in Austin last week, which you can watch HERE!

Tonight, this season's top 10 will sing the songs of Billy Joel.  So how did Sarah get inspired for tonight's snack recipe? "When I think of Billy Joel, I think of one of his biggest hits, 'New York State Of Mind,'" she says. "So when I was coming up with this recipe, I was thinking food vendors--hot dogs, food you could get in a 'New York minute,' things like that. This recipe is a homage to the busy NYC lifestyle: It's quick, delicious, and incredibly easy!"

    Sausage Pinwheels
    Yields 24 pinwheels

    Ingredients:

    ▪     10oz reduced-fat sausage, ground
    ▪     1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
    ▪     1/4 tsp dried thyme
    ▪     1 garlic clove, minced
    ▪     2 tbsp shredded Parmesan
    ▪     2 tbsp yellow onion, diced
    ▪     1 container thin-crust pizza dough

    Preheat oven to 375.

In a large bowl, mix together the sausage and the next 5 ingredients, through the pizza dough. Unroll dough onto a lightly floured work space and gently spread the sausage mixture onto the dough.

Starting at the bottom, roll into a log. Cool in the refrigerator until firm (this will help it slice better).

Cut the log into 1/2" pinwheels and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake until the dough is golden-brown and the sausage is cooked through, around 25-30 minutes.

    Bon appétit!
