    • Is "Abby...it's happening again!!" a household catchphrase yet? I mean, even when the TV isn't on? Because it should be. In a brilliant move, NBC is reminding audiences of the pedigree of their new January drama "The Firm" by showing a scene in which Josh Lucas's character Mitch McDeere says that on the phone to his wife. I don't know why it's funny, but it just is: "Abby, the events of the blockbuster movie starring Tom Cruise are happening again, only on television!" And then there's the other promo, which focuses on the villains. I guess points should be given for making the villain who spells out that Mitch McDeere could ruin the group of villains' evil plan being a woman, but then those points and a hundred more should be taken away for that being a scene.

Oh, and actually, since I actually watched (and enjoyed!) "The Firm" recently on Netflix, shouldn't Abby still be kind of mad about Mitch having sex with the prostitute on the beach in the Cayman Islands? Because it's really weird that nobody actually made him do that! (Also, it was in the book, so there's no "It's based on the book, not the movie" excuse.) Promos!

    • I mean, I refer to the him above as "Mick Jagger," but maybe I should call him "Michael"? Because that's what the host (or "presenter," in British) of a 1950s-era show called "Seeing Sport" did when the future Rolling Stones frontman showed off a pair of then-state-of-the-art rock climbing shoes. Boy, does he look sullen!

    • Businessmen confused by emoticons. This morning, in a segment that has clearly been sitting there waiting for a slow news day for years, "The Today Show" finally did the hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners investigation into whether or not emoticons are okay. In this bizarre-for-existing, VERY "Onion News Network"-reminiscent segment, the following things happen or are said:

      1. Emoticons are explained to the viewer. ("Even skateboarding?!")

      2. "What's the deal with all the faces?"

    • Yay, these guys are back! (TLC)Sadly, we are all going to have a worse Monday night than we have experienced for the past month: A&E's "Monster In-Laws" has evidently run through all its episodes, and will be replaced tonight by "Intervention." Guys, I know: I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet either. I am really going to miss judging those poor idiots for yelling at each other all the time!

Fortunately, there will be no shortage of judging opportunities in reality TV this week. I'm not talking about the big ones, like "Hoarders" or "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" (though, of course, those are very much worth watching, too). In fact, the next several days will bring us a bounty of judge-ortunities: a new spin on an old series; the revival of a one-season wonder; the return of an old reality warhorse; and two new fall shows you probably haven't even heard of. Clear some space on the DVR: If you enjoy judging strangers, you are going to need it.

    • ‘My Extreme Animal Phobia’ Helps a Woman Terrified of Kittens

To be fair, they do scratch!Remember the big strong man with the facial tattoo who was so scared of dogs that even an adorable puppy made him cry (and also us, when we realized what he was going through)? Well, I'll be honest: this clip from the same show, "My Extreme Animal Phobia," isn't as good as that. I guess we as an internet culture have been desensitized to the idea of otherwise rational adults being afraid of cute things. But it's still pretty good, because of the lady's sister's disbelief, the Paw Incident, and, especially, Dr. Robin Zasio. Can we just give a shout out to Dr. Robin Zasio, who, from her work on all the anxiety reality shows has proven herself, if nothing else, the world's foremost champion in the field of Keeping a Straight Face?

    • "Smash," NBC's answer to "Glee," doesn't start until February, but it's already buzzier than some of the shows the network premiered this fall (rest in peace, "Free Agents," "The Playboy Club," and probably "Prime Suspect"!). In a kind of teaser for the series, NBC has released a full music-video treatment for "Beautiful," which Broadway ingénue Karen (Katharine McPhee) performs for her audition to play Marilyn Monroe in a new musical. And hey, how fortunate that Karen's chosen number happens to have originally been performed by another NBC star!
