Ben & Jerry’s on Their New ‘Schweddy Balls’ Ice Cream Flavor: ‘Trust Me, it’s Real’

Way back in June, former "SNL" actor and writer Ana Gasteyer gave an interview to a local New York TV station in which she was asked about "Schweddy Balls," the classic '90s "SNL" sketch starring Alec Baldwin. "It has this crazy, massive popularity that's kind of had a half life since I left the show. Ben and Jerry's is coming out with a schweddy balls ice cream for Christmas this year," she told the station. Gothamist saw it and contacted Ben & Jerry's, who coyly (yet provocatively) answered "We like all of our new flavors to have an element of surprise."

Well, surprise! "Schweddy Balls" has hit the market, and now you can taste the "vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and loaded with fudge covered rum and malt balls" in your mouth for a limited time. The official Ben & Jerry's Twitter (@cherrygarcia) confirmed it: "Trust me it's real, delicious, and coming to a store near you." Alec Baldwin also testified to the veracity of Schweddy Balls in a press release yesterday: "Ben & Jerry's and Schweddy. Two great names in American dessert, together at last."

Here's the original sketch, one of the "Delicious Dish" sketches in which Gasteyer and Molly Shannon made fun of NPR. The Schweddy Ball double-entendre goodness ("No one can resist my Schweddy Balls") with guest Alec Baldwin as baker Pete Schweddy begins at the two minute mark. Now, we just need Ben & Jerry's to offer the Schweddy Ball Sack as well!
