Jimmy Fallon’s Upcoming ‘SNL’ Hosting Gig Predicted to the Week By 1998 Sketch

Well, this is cool: after the announcement came yesterday that Jimmy Fallon will return to "Saturday Night Live" as host on December 17th, the internet figured out that his December '11 hosting gig was foretold by a sketch then-cast member Fallon did with Alec Baldwin in 1998. The sketch (below), which has Fallon hosting on December 12th, 2011, was only off by five days.

How much do you want to bet Fallon had some part in arranging a 2011 gig just to make the sketch's prediction come true? I mean, he is that big of a geek, and he has considerable sway with Lorne Michaels, who also produces "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." I think the chances are actually good! Either way, the sketch shows a version of 2011 that did not come to pass except for the part about Jimmy being "big" now. Alec Baldwin is surely breathing a sigh of relief that his name is not synonymous with excrement, and Don Pardo is no doubt pleased to still be alive. (One niggling complaint, though: didn't the people of 1998 have the technology to at least choose a date that fell on a Saturday? Or was it just too much work to figure it out before Google?)
