Unforgettable," heading the elite Major Crimes division of the NYPD, and managing the sometimes hard-to-manage Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), whose detective work is unconventional given her extraordinary memory.Although the 43-year-old looks the part of the big boss with his sharp suits (and favorite Big Apple pin), he's not your typical top cop. The actor brings his special flair to the role, giving the character a distinct quirkiness, which we've also watched him do in his roles on " Dallas Roberts calls the shots as Eliot Delson on "The Good Wife" and "Walking Dead."
"You know, I haven’t really played guys with a whole bunch of power in a long time," the Houston, Texas, native tells Yahoo TV. "I tend to be this sort of quirky, weird guy in the back. So now it's fun to be the quirky, weird guy in the front."
As top brass, Eliot is taxed with managing his superstar detective and her partner, Al Burns, who is played by Dylan Walsh, which has its challenges.
"I think Carrie and Al are so good at their jobs," he notes, "and Eliot desperately needs them to make him look good. But they butt heads — you know, the way any co-workers would."
Most of the action for Roberts takes place in the Major Crimes division headquarters, a high-tech Bat Cave of sorts. At the click of a button, they can have live feeds of nearly any part of the city, and an elite crime squad uses other high-tech methods to track down leads.
"Eliot tends to mostly be in the office. That's the sort of lair that he’s most comfortable in," says Roberts. "But every couple of episodes you'll see him outside. You know, he's a very busy guy. He's very ambitious. He's got a million other irons in the fire. I'm sure he's got his eyes on a bunch of different prizes."
A perk of filming "Unforgettable" for Roberts is being able to live and work in his adopted hometown of New York City, where he has resided for the last 23 years, and where he and his partner, set designer Christine Jones (whom he sweetly refers to as "my lady"), are raising their two sons, Pilot and Ever.
"As a sort of transplanted New Yorker, I'm the kind of guy who moved here specifically to be a New York actor," he says. "So it's really exciting to be on a show in which New York City features as prominently as a character as any of the rest of us. And it's a really short drive to the set from [my neighborhood]."

Another perk? "Unforgettable" is a series that airs on CBS, the same network as "The Good Wife" on which he played Alicia's brother Owen Cavanaugh … who may pop up again on a future episode.
"I'm assuming that CBS will find a way to loan to me to CBS," he laughs. "And luckily Eliot and Owen look enough alike that it wouldn't be a problem."
Check out Roberts on "Unforgettable," which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
