Leah Remini to Star in New TLC Reality Series

What's a celebrity to do after a very public split from a very publically scrutinized church? First comes the tell-all interview, then comes the reality TV show, of course.

Yahoo TV has learned exclusively that actress Leah Remini is starring in a new reality TV series for TLC, set to premiere this summer.

Remini is best known for starring on nine seasons of CBS's "King of Queens," as well as a very memorable stint on "Saved by the Bell," a season co-hosting "The Talk," and shaking things up on "Dancing With the Stars" Season 17.

The Untitled Leah Remini Project on TLC will feature Remini's husband of 10 years, Angelo Pagan, a devoted father who helps run their family diner, and Sofia, their feisty 9-year-old daughter who keeps her parents in check.

The show will also include Remini's opinionated mother and eccentric stepfather, and her sister and brother-in-law who "have a secret coded language that drives Leah insane," according to TLC. There's also Remini's wisecracking housekeeper, Sofia’s brash British nanny, and Leah’s personal assistant who really wants to act.

"Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter, and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network," said Nancy Daniels, general manager of TLC. "This series continues our focus on creating compelling series about remarkable families, using heart and humor to anchor it to the TLC brand."

The network has ordered 12 half-hour episodes of the Untitled Leah Remini Project, which is being produced by Gurney Productions, the company behind "Duck Dynasty." Production begins today, and the series is expected to premiere this summer on TLC.

With a new gig on TV Land's "The Exes" and a new lease on life, Remini recently told BuzzFeed: "I don’t want to be known as this bitter, ex-Scientologist. I’m not trying to bash anybody and I’m not trying to be controversial. I just want people to know the truth."

Her husband, mother, and sister were also mentioned in the interview as members of the Church, and Remini cited her daughter as a driving force to leave after 30 years, so it'll be interesting to see if the reality show touches on all of their lives post-Scientology.

Remini told BuzzFeed that she's dubbed this time in her life "Third Act: Shock and Awe," which includes being back on TV with "The Exes," working on a memoir, and pitching shows with her husband, all of which will presumably be seen on the new TLC series.

This won't be Remini's first time as the subject of a reality TV show though. Remini let VH1 cameras follow her for their "Inside Out" documentary series while she planned her wedding in 2003, and then again while she and husband Angelo were trying to get pregnant, and all through her pregnancy and delivery, in 2004.

"People are somewhat familiar with my family through the VH1 specials we did, and we are hoping that with our TLC show, you feel we are sharing our family with yours," Remini said of the announcement.

To give viewers an idea of what to expect from Remini, sharing and uncensored, just take this quote from VH1's "Inside Out: Leah Remini's Baby": "As far as I'm concerned, everybody can go f--k themselves right now," she said with a smile. And there's plenty more where that came from.
