Want to see Dwight from "The Office" play an ornery homicide detective with a penchant for fattening foods? Well, we have good and bad news for you.
"Office" alum Rainn Wilson starred in a pilot for a new CBS procedural, "Backstrom," that didn't get picked up by the network. But yesterday, Wilson tweeted out a link to watch the four-minute "Backstrom" trailer (embedded above), which gives us a small taste of what might have been.
In it, Wilson plays Everett Backstrom, a prickly Portland cop who's like an unholy combination of Dwight Schrute and Dr. Gregory House: He drinks heavily, he gorges on artery-blocking foods, and he is proudly politically incorrect ("Why do queers make everything so gay?"). And of course, he's also the best damn detective in the state.
Joining Backstrom on the force are Mamie Gummer ("Emily Owens, M.D."), "Life Unexpected's" Kristoffer Polaha, and "24's" Dennis Haysbert. And apparently, there's still hope: Wilson's tweet refers to "Backstrom" as "in pilot limbo-land," so maybe some other network will pick it up and make our dreams of Dwight Schrute, Homicide Cop come true.
