Two words: Denny Crane
June 7, 2007I watch very few shows on TV. I go way out of my way to watch Boston Legal. I hadn't been addicted to a TV show since Hill Street Blues, but I'm jonesin' for my Boston Legal every Tuesday night. I own the DVDs and am waiting for Season 3 to be released.
I missed the first season of the show. I don't watch a lot of TV and figured a law show with James Spader and William Shatner would be a huge waste of time - how long could a show with two such vastly different actors succeed. I was traveling on business with nothing else to do and ran across the show in the middle of the second season. I've only missed one episode since.
Watching the DVDs, it's interesting to see the original episodes and observe how the characters have changed. Actually, it's interesting to see how the cast has changed. By keeping the few core characters fresh and bringing in new characters with quirky traits, I have to believe it is more interesting for the writers - I know it's a lot more interesting for the viewers.
While righting the world and running intellectual circles around the ultra-conservative Denny Crane (William Shatner) and Brad Chase (Mark Valley), Alan Shore (James Spader) is a great, though liberal, character. I like the fact that the program will take on social issues. I don't always agree with the positions taken and some relevant facts are occasionally left out, but the great thing about the show is that the points are made well enough that I actually find myself pissed off when I know details are left out and researching other issues in the days after a show. No other shows I have ever watched have done that. Other shows have gotten me pissed off, but generally only after I have realized how much time I have wasted watching them.
From the incredibly attractive female lawyers and judges to the eccentricities of the male lawyers and judges, Boston Legal has been able to offer some good solid story lines. My wife and I have actually had real conversations about some of the issues brought up in the show.
A show that can make you laugh and make you think. I honestly couldn't ask for anything more. Was this review helpful to you? Sign in to rate -

Shatlectrified
November 29, 2006Shatner is great with Spader. This is definitely one of the best shows on television. The onscreen relationship b/w Shatner and Spader is shaping up to be as memorable as Kirk and Spock! Was this review helpful to you? Sign in to rate -

My favorite show
January 11, 2007I rarely ever watched "The Practice", but when I saw the commercials promoting this series I knew I HAD to watch it. James Spader has always been a favorite of mine since the 80's. I love the characters and their interactions with each other. As a Paralegal I think it would be very interesting and never boring to work at Crane, Poole, and Schmidt! DENNY CRANE!Was this review helpful to you? Sign in to rate -
