I've read a couple of reviews, and most want to relate "Breaking Bad" to Showtime's "Weeds". While it is easy to want to make this comparison, "Bad" gives a true, real-life look into a middle-class, middle-aged life. While the characters on "Weeds" sell marijuana to get by, they also get some enjoyment out of selling and/or the misadventures it brings, Walter and Jesse don't take much joy out of what they are doing; in fact, Walter seems to hate every aspect of what he is doing: breaking the law, being a kidnapper, lying to his family. And we are able to see how all of this takes its toll on him. The character comes so close, so often to walking away from his risky business venture, but continues to stay, usually for the sake of his family.
"Weeds" tries to capitalize on the sexy and funny suburban lifestyle made popular by "Desperate Housewives" and the like. But "Bad" brings in a new element that is always talked about but rarely put into a good series: the struggle to make it through everyday financially, psychologically, and emotionally in a middle-class life. And while Walter seems to be very predictable and risk averse, the series shows him evolving into a very unpredictable, and almost dangerous individual from episode to episode.
"Breaking Bad mixes its outstanding story lines with an eerie reality that viewers relate to, and the outcome is magnificent.

Suffering in silence, except for his hacking cough, a science teacher discovers he has lung cancer. As his symptoms progress, and the financial and medical impact sinks in, he decides he will do anything to provide security for his family. Even if it means using his knowledge of science to make meth, and using a high school student with drug connections to sell it. Thus begins the surreal journey of Walter, a quiet and unassuming man, into the world of violence and craziness that is the drug culture. As he loses his hair, and vomits in the school bathroom, the despair and hopelessness of this man's life seems insurmountable. And yet, he is finding a way to survive, and even prevail over the chaos and turmoil. In the season finale, he is at his baby shower & asked to say something to his unborn baby in the video camera. His frozen, guarded features relax as he says softly "I think of you every day." Beautiful, haunting, memorable tv.

This is a show, that you cant get enough of. Its like.. no hes not going to do that.. and then by the end of the episode ur mouth is on the floor from shock. The actors are perfect for this show, they have such intensity and emotions. GREAT JOB!! Highly recommended. AMC Sundays@10pm.

A very realistic slice of life, one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen. The characters are cast perfectly .Lots of really great humor. My only criticism is, it is not on often enough!
