Downton Abbey

Should 'American Horror Story' Fans Watch 'Downton Abbey'?

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) — Although FX's "American Horror Story" and PBS's "Downton Abbey" probably do not court the same audience, the two hit shows have similar qualities beyond the stunning properties that also serve as pivotal characters. The TV shows take place nearly a century apart, but both explore modern concerns through the dichotomy of two classes of people. The ensemble cast, fast pace and online presence keep viewers engaged and eagerly awaiting the next episode. ... Full Story

Who Should Be the Next Band to Guest Star on 'The Simpsons'?

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) — "The Simpsons" is not only one of the most consistently smart, funny, and coolest shows on television, but it sure knows how to showcase great bands and performers. We've seen Aerosmith, The Ramones, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Smashing Pumpkins, Kiss, Peter Frampton, and even our favorite "crank it to 11" mockumentary rockers, Spinal Tap. Here are the musicians I would love to see "Simpsonized." ... Full Story

Terra Nova

The Troubled History of Dinosaurs on TV

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) — With only a few notable exceptions, TV shows about dinosaurs tend to crash and burn. So You Think You Can Dance

'So You Think You Can Dance' Results Show Canceled: Is This a Good or Bad Thing?

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) — According to Executive Producer/Judge Nigel Lythgoe, Fox has officially canceled the results portion of "So You Think You Can Dance." No word yet on how this will be handled, however, but instead of two episodes, "So You Think You Can Dance" will now be regulated to one per week. The reality hit has been on the air for eight seasons, and although this does not signify the end, fans may worry that changing a format that has worked for so long might affect the overall quality. Of course, this could also be a blessing in disguise, since results shows tend to be nothing more than filler up until the final moments. Here is a look at some of the possible pros and cons of the new format change. ... Full Story

2011 TV Year in Review: It is No Longer a Man's World - Sitcoms, Dramas With Guy Appeal Were First to Go

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) —With so many shows coming and going, 2011 has been a bumpy year for broadcast and cable television. Arguably, given the number of male-oriented cancellations, this has been a tough year to be a guy on TV. "2 Broke Girls" and "New Girl," for instance, are going into mid-season with decent ratings and serious buzz, but CBS pulled the plug on "How to be a Gentleman" after only two episodes. Networks look for instant gratification in the ratings, which means a freshman sitcom has to come out of the gate smoking to secure its spot in the line-up. The girls need to keep the momentum through 2012, but for these two gentlemen, it's game over. ... Full Story

Once Upon a Time

Fantasy and Period Drama Ruled on Television in 2011

(Yahoo! Contributor Network) — There is no denying that reality television programming still claims a large chunk of the viewing audience, but the most interesting trend in television in 2011 was undoubtedly fantasy-themed shows. From the bloodthirsty power-hungry world of Westeros in HBO's "Game of Thrones" to the dueling but very different fairytale worlds depicted in ABC's "Once Upon A Time" and NBC's "Grimm," television screens were full of monsters, special effects, and rich storytelling - and the audience loved it. But period drama was also popular, with PBS's British import "Downton Abbey" wowing audiences and HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" having a successful second season. ... Full Story
