Last Week's Random Musings

Majoring In Denial

Friday, November 06, 2009

"Ellen": One of the genius kid inventors on today's "Ellen" was a third-grader named Deja, who came up with the "instant high heel," a stick-on shoe-lifter that makes any shoe a ... well, you get the point. What a great idea! I often wear shoes that make me think, "You know, I wish these were more painful!" But she'll probably make a mint on it, or at least more than I made from my invention that does just the opposite: the "Instant De-High-Heel-er." All you need are some high-heeled shoes (it works best with expensive ones), an uneven sidewalk, and a few appletinis! Works like a charm every time!

"Today": It's been a big, huge, and gigantic week on morning television! Rachael Ray had America's biggest camel, Ellen unveiled her oversized "O Magazine" cover, Kelly Ripa enhanced her bustline with a conical bra, and "Today" got into the act this morning from the Big Apple with the world's largest children's book! The letters were so big I didn't even need my reading glasses! Ugh, I'm getting old!

"GMA": A college student got an earful from financial expert Mellody Hobson when she timidly asked if department store credit cards were "a good idea." I think she knew the answer already, since the next thing she said was "because that's one of my really bad habits." Money Mel made no bones about it and she even gave her the "Family Feud"-style two-finger "X," complete with buzzing sound effect! When another shopaholic sophomore confessed that she defaulted on a credit card and is currently executing the financial plan of "hoping it goes away," Mellody determined that everyone at this school was majoring in denial.

" HYPERLINK "http://tv.yahoo.com/live-with-regis-kelly/show/31785" Regis and Kelly": "The Box" star James Marsden was on the show in all his hunky awesomeness. He seems like a really sweet guy, probably because he is from Oklahoma City. He joked with Reeg about growing up in a teepee on the plains, which made everyone laugh. Everyone except for Winona Rider, who grew up in a teepee.

"Rachael Ray": It must have been Oklahoma day because country music superstar (and Oklahoma native) Reba McEntire was talking about her new album, clothing line, furniture line, TV show on DVD, and upcoming concerts. Wow, she is a busy lady! But the thing I love most about Reba is that she is so down-to-earth and honest. For example, she recounts a story about Emmylou Harris telling her it was her night at the Grammy Awards and how much that meant to her as an upcoming star. However, she then went on to say that although she supports the young up-and-comers, she still wants to win every award she is nominated for (which made everyone laugh). It reminds me of how an old boyfriend was totally cool when I broke up with him, but when another boyfriend broke up with me, I set his lawn on fire and put his car up for sale in the newspaper. I know, it is kinda funny when I look back on it.

"Jerry Springer": Jerry's show today was all over the place with an angry blind guy, his "girlfriend" with a giant Adam's apple, flying wigs, shocking secrets, and a shirtless fight. I know what you're thinking ... that's GREAT television!

"The View": Today the answer to the fashion question "Who is Elisabeth Hasselbeck wearing?" was Elisabeth Hasselbeck! Yep, the new mother-of-three has her own clothing line with Dialogue and she's not afraid to rock the self-promotion on the show. The only thing more meta than that is the time I saw Ronald McDonald eating a cheeseburger at McDonald's!

"The Early Show": "The Early Show" gave some surprising triggers for headaches, including warm weather, exercise, and cheese! No wonder I get serious migraines after my weekly Bikram yoga/fondue night.
