"Today": There isn't anything spookier than dressing up your pets for Halloween. There were a number of hauntingly dreadful costumes a few poor pooches had to wear today: a piece of sushi, a Hershey's kiss, a skunk, a unicorn, and the ever-popular X-Ray! And I always thought the old, smelly cat ladies were the crazy ones!
"Regis and Kelly": Regis spent the morning doing a Sunday New York sports wrap-up, which would normally elicit a yawn from Kelly and a sea of blank stares from his housewife-heavy studio audience. But today, Reeg crowed about his beloved Yankees punching their ticket to the World Series, where they'll face the Phillies, so South Jersey girl Kelly Ripa was all ears. They agreed that the best nickname for the Series so far is the "Turnpike Tussle," while runners-up like "The I-95 Draw" and "Broadway vs. Broad Street" were quickly rejected. Personally, I like "Cheesecake vs. Cheese Steak" - by which I mean that I like both those foods. And I plan to support both teams, by eating them before each game. I hope it goes the full seven!
"The Early Show": "The Early Show" folks scrubbed their kitchen to prepare themselves for Lori Sandler and her son, who has a very severe nut allergy. Sandler, who taught herself to cook and bake with her son's allergy in mind, started her own allergy-free bakery, Divvies, which serves all sorts of nut-free baked goods and snacks. She showed us how to make brownies without nuts. Which I thought you could do by just... not putting in nuts. Eh, what do I know?
"The People's Court": Today's case was pretty interesting because it involved poorly executed fraud. There was a dispute between a quad (i.e., a four-wheeled all-terrain-vehicle) lover and an ATV salesman about the exchange of a recently purchased quad. While Judge Milian was chewing out the plaintiff, she stumbled on a curious discrepancy. See, the plaintiff and the defendant had both told her that when the exchange was made, the defendant gave the plaintiff a receipt, but nothing was signed. However, as evidence the defendant had provided a receipt with the plaintiff's signature. The defendant tried playing dumb - "I don't know how his signature got on there" - which made the judge so mad she screamed at pretty much everyone in the courtroom. Seriously, I haven't seen a woman get this mad since my mom saw the haircut I gave my little brother before Christmas Eve mass in '86. In my defense, it isn't easy to manage grown-up scissors AND watch "Frosty" at the same time.
"Bonnie Hunt": Today Bon Bon welcomed Anthony Edwards. We all loved him as Dr. Greene on "ER", but now he's playing husband to Uma Thurman in a new film called "Motherhood." I checked out his resume on IMDb, and along with playing the role of Gilbert in "Revenge of the Nerds," this dude was totally in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." He played a character named Stoner Bud! Now that's success!
"Ellen": Hilary Swank showed off a lifetime's worth of Halloween costume pictures, including several witches, clowns, hobos, and last year's costume: Ellen DeGeneres. I can see it now - fast forward to 2025, when Hilary gets rave reviews for her star turn in "The Ellen Story," which somehow wins her six more Oscars.
"GMA": It was Ashley + Mary Kate + a big pink van as the Olsen twins rolled up to Times Square for a curbside interview and to give a sneak peak at their new "Olsenboye" clothing line. The converted ice-cream truck serves as a mobile retail store, and it'll be cruising New York City for the next three days, setting up shop around town and giving out cupcakes, too! It sure looked like a full house in there - but out popped three tween-y models, and two tween-ier Olsen twins, to show off their new winter/spring duds. Then it was back to the clothesmobile, leaving a trail of camis and cupcakes in their Olson-y wake.
