Dexter is a new take on an old theme
November 29, 2006
The unique premise of this show is that you are forced to empathize with a serial killer and challenge your value system. Dexter is the good cop/bad cop/judge/jury/executioner all rolled into one character. I find myself saying, "Hey. Wait a minute. I can't feel sorry for a serial killer" or "I never thought a serial killer would have a code of honour".
The "sunny" backdrop of Miami also breaks from the usual dark, gritty crime dramas.
Great plotline. Great characters (except for the sister who isn't entirely believable as a cop).

Rooting for Death
March 1, 2008
It feels very odd to root for a serial killer. Our society tells us that killing is wrong, and killing and cutting up bodies for easy disposal on a consistent basis is very wrong. Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer though, and if you watch this show, you will join the rest of us fans of his work and root for death.
The code that Dexter lives by, dictated by his foster father Harry, allows him to coexist with the normal people of the city of Miami. He covers all his bases meticulously and being a pathologist for the Miami police crime lab affords him the opportunity to find fresh victims who slip through the legal cracks.
The first season, all 12 episodes of the Ice Truck Killer saga is must watch tv. The story is epic and the characters surrounding Dexter keep the story flowing smoothly like the crimson blood of his victims. If you have not seen Dexter and don't mind the sight of blood, mutilation and the depiction of the true human filth that Dexter hunts... you must see this show.
Who knows? If you give it a chance, you just might root for death too.

Dissapointed with final episode kill scene
December 16, 2007
C'mon....he goes to Paris to kill Lila with knife to the chest? The entire show has been very well written -- excruciating attention to detail. And to end with Dexter taking, what, a private jet? To Paris? To kill Lila?
Very disappointed!

What a great show! An amazing ensemble cast led by a tour de force performance by Michael C. Hall. Nothing on television gets better than Dexter.
