Season 3,  Episode 12 | Original Airdate: December 14, 2008

Do You Take Dexter Morgan?

Updated 2008-12-15 08:02:43

Previously: Dexter and Miguel Prado became friends who killed together. Miguel wanted to kill a rival defense attorney, Ellen Wolf, but Dexter said they couldn't -- because she wasn't really guilty of anything. Miguel decided to do it anyway. Miguel freaked at Dexter, telling him that he'll do whatever he wants to do, whenever he wants to do it, COUNT ON IT! Seriously, Showtime has shown him screaming that so many hundreds of times. Much like the Empire Carpets commercials, I love it more every time I see it. Dexter decides that he needs to kill Miguel. Maria was on to Miguel and he knew it. She took a sample from his car and it proved that Ellen had been there. He was about to kill Maria when Dexter intervened and killed him first. He plans on blaming it on The Skinner. Deb and Anton are on the outs. Dexter told Deb that Harry had cheated on his wife -- but he didn't mention that his mistress had been his biological mother, only that she had been a CI. No one at the station can get the true identity of George "The Skinner" King. Dexter killed Miguel as he screamed at Dexter that this was not the end for him.

We open with Miguel, in black slacks and tank top, lying dead on a beautiful lawn overlooking the water. Dexter VO's that there are few responses we can provoke that are more powerful than our deaths. That's pretty true, huh? Death and facial hair choices. People are always talking about anything you do with your facial hair. In a stop-start fading style, we see someone discover Miguel's body, then cops arrive. As he's photographing the scene, Dex VO's that Miguel's body, while recently walking and talking and threatening, is now just an empty vessel -- which is not that different from how he already views himself. Vince says that there are patches of skin missing from Miguel's shoulder -- Dexter's attempt to pin the blame on The Skinner. Deb wonders why King would kill Miguel and Quinn says that, since Miguel was going after Freebo, he must have assumed that Miguel knew something about his whereabouts. Dexter sees Ramon glaring from afar. He VO's that some people deal with death by being angry. Ramon deals with waking up in the morning by being angry, right? Granted, I'm a morning person, but still. That guy is pissed about everything. Angel stops him and asks him if he wants off of this task, seeing as how he and Miguel were such close friends. Dex feigns grief and says that he'll be fine, then he VO's that he's going to play the part of the grieving friend who buries himself in his work. As Miguel's body is being carried away, lots of the police and coroner's office folks remove their hats and bow their heads. Dex VO's that you can tell a lot about a man by the friends that he leaves behind -- and this was his best friend. I would agree that it does indeed say a lot about the person who is Dexter's best friend. It says something like, "I'm surprised that you didn't get killed sooner."

Miguel has been loaded into the coroner's ambulance, or whatever it is -- they haven't covered his body. Weird, right? Anyway, Dexter VO's a farewell to Miguel and is about to close his eyelids when Ramon grabs his hand. He tells him not to touch his brother. Dexter tells him to let go of him, but Ramon doesn't move. Then, he says, "Now." That's the cool thing about Dexter. Even though Michael Hall has a rocking bod, Dexter just doesn't seem like that imposing of a guy. But, when he says "Now" without flinching? You can tell he means business and you are almost afraid to know what he has to back up his confidence. Well, we know what he has, but a regular person doesn't. Like Ramon. He lets go of Dexter's arm but pulls him around to the side of the ambulance. Ramon tells him that he will find out why this happened. Dexter says that they all want the same thing. Ramon doesn't say another word -- just walks away.

Later, Dexter and Rita are arriving home from Miguel's funeral. Apparently, Ramon ejected them from the ceremony. Rita doesn't understand why he's so angry and Dexter points out that he has recently lost two brothers and doesn't know whom to blame. Rita responds, "Certainly not you." Actualllly.... Rita puts her arms around Dex and asks him how he's handling this whole thing. He says that he's dealing with a lot of different emotions. She says that, even thought Miguel wasn't the man he thought he was, he has lost a friend and doesn't need to be so strong. Rita expresses sympathy for Syl, who apparently still wants to help with the wedding. In fact, she still wants to attend their rehearsal dinner the next night. People often say that divorce would be easier if the other person were dead -- here's her chance to put that to the test. Dexter says that life goes on.

Dex is going through their mail and finds a card from Rita's mom. As he opens it, Rita tells him that she's not coming down for the wedding (she tells him two days before?) because she's teaching and can't miss a class. She refers to her jokingly as "my loving mother." She's pulled her life together and all (though she is about to marry a serial killer), but due to her past propensity for being a doormat, I would imagine that Rita would have some special parents. The card reads, "Let's hope the third try's the charm." Dexter reads it aloud and seems confused. Rita stumbles a bit and says that she must be referring to the fact that she is having her third child. Dexter says that Cody and Astor are charms too, but she reminds him that her mother is "loving." Dex wonders via VO if Rita just lied to him. She asks him if he has written his vows yet, but he says they are not completed. What should he say? Well, she says that he can talk about togetherness, loyalty, attraction, HONESTY. Honesty? Yes, honesty. She looks a little bit shifty, but doesn't say anything. He gets ready to leave and she gives him the program from Miguel's funeral and tells him that he should keep it. Dexter looks at it for a second and says with great feeling, "He gave me so much."

In his car, Dexter VO's mock vows for Rita. They're flowery and generally gross. He finally stops and says, "It sounds like I'm marrying a unicorn." He gets a text message that apparently alarms him. The next thing we see, Dex is at his apartment. Someone has broken in. There are police everywhere. A cop tells Dexter that the property manager found the door open. The place has been trashed. Dexter nervously watches one cop taking fingerprints from the screen of his a/c unit. The property manager had called Dexter as well. The cop tells him that he'll need to look around for anything that's missing, but he says that it's hard to tell. A neighbor saw a guy hanging around the complex -- Latin, burly, had a goatee. Hmmm. He asks Dexter if that rings any bells and he says it doesn't. Dexter is pacing and really nervous about the a/c.

Finally, the cops leave and Dexter locks the door and sprints to the a/c unit. His blood slides are still there. He sighs with relief as a vision of Harry reminds him that Miguel said that things weren't finished. Dexter wonders if Miguel's plan was to make him hire a housekeeper. Weak. Harry points out that Dexter's suit for the wedding has been shredded. That's personal. As Dexter checks to make sure that none of his killing tools have been tampered with, Harry compares Ramon to a wounded animal. He tells Dexter that he should put him out of his misery. Dexter says that Ramon doesn't meet the Code, but Harry says he can't ignore him either. At this, Dexter picks up a little plastic bag containing Ellen's ring. He has an idea. He says that he has no intention of ignoring Ramon and takes off.

It's night and Dexter is driving. He arrives at Ramon's house as he's VO'ing that he can use the ring to link Miguel to Ellen's murder, thus "threatening" to ruin his reputation. What, is he going to plant the evidence but not use it? Because, were the plant to be found, there's no "threatening" his reputation. It would just be ruined, right? He stops Ramon's wife, Sara, as she's entering her house. He asks her how she's doing and she says not well. He asks for Ramon and she says that he didn't come home from the funeral with her (she doesn't mention that Ramon threw Dex and Rita out of the service). Ramon has been on a bender and she's really worried about him. Dexter leaves, but asks her to tell Ramon that he stopped by.

At the station the next day, the day before this wedding nonsense is over and done with so help me God, Dexter VO's that Ramon's blood family doesn't know where he is, but maybe his "blue family" will. Then, he calls Papa Smurf. I kid. He looks at a printout of a newspaper article regarding a bust of Ramon's and a fellow officer. He calls the Sheriff's Department and asks for Sergeant Jessie Whitaker, the man with Ramon in the newspaper article. He is put on hold. As he's waiting, he decides to do a little research on Rita. The operator comes back and tells Dexter that Sergeant Whitaker is in the field, but Dexter tells her that he's from Homicide and asks her to track him down. He's on hold again. He VO's that, before she left Michigan, Rita Bennett would have been Rita Brandon. Apparently, Rita was married before Paul to a guy with the last name "Ackerman." She was 16 and the marriage lasted 6 months.

Angel is leading a meeting and tells everyone that the brass has given them a blank check regarding overtime. This show never felt more like fiction than at this very moment. The brass wants Jorge Orozco a.k.a. George King a.k.a The Sinner in custody and they're willing to pay for it. In Nicaragua, Orozco is known as El Fierro (translation: The Blade). He doesn't try new things, this Orozco. Back home, he headed an interrogation unit for the Contras, so he was essentially a professional torturer. With Miguel Prado's murder, this case is now officially huge.

Back in his office, Dexter finally connects with Sergeant Whitaker. Dex says that he's a family friend and looking for Ramon, who has been missing since his brother's funeral. He says in a leading way that, because of his "problem," it's urgent that they find him and thought his old partner might have some ideas. Whitaker says that he can think of a few of Ramon's favorite places, but basically he could be found at any bar within a ten mile radius.

The meeting is over and Angel pulls Deb to the side. He tells her that, after months of asking, his budget request is coming through and Homicide is getting extra money. Deb is psyched. She thinks they should get a crime site imager. Really? Well, Angel was thinking that he might use that money to pay for her new salary as Detective! It takes her a second to get it, but she's very excited. She thanks him profusely and he tells her that all he needs is for Maria to sign the paperwork. He tells her "good work" then walks away.

Deb pops into Dexter's office and tells him the news. Dexter congratulates her and says that they should celebrate, but it will have to be later. He has to pick up the kids and go to the tailor (that's gotta be a helluva tailor to fix that suit). Then, he tells her that Harry would be proud. Deb gives a wan smile and Dexter says that Harry's approval still means a lot, even though he may have been flawed. She agrees, in a way. She points out that he is getting married and she just made detective. "The Morgans are gonna be alright." She tells him she'll see him at the rehearsal dinner and leaves.

She promptly goes downstairs to talk to Frances, the woman working in archives. She asks her if she's had any progress pulling the files of the female CI's Harry worked with. She could really use a vision from Harry right now to smooth all of this out. Frances says that she hasn't had a chance to look through everything, but wants to make sure Deb really wants to go through with this. She suggests that some things are best left in the box, but Deb says that she needs to put a face on the mistress. Frances says that knowing her face isn't going to change anything, but she agrees to send up the findings as soon as she is done.

Maria takes Dexter into her office. She has just heard that the freeway interchange near her house is about to be named after Miguel. She wants to out him for killing Ellen. Dexter tells her that the only evidence they have (aside from the ring, which she doesn't know about) was obtained illegally, and is thus inadmissible. Maria vows to tear his life apart, but Dex reminds her that she'd actually only be hurting his family. Because dead people don't hurt. She asks if she's just supposed to keep her knowledge secret and Dex suggests that she must. She hates secrets. "We all have them," drones Dexter like he's Vincent Price. Seriously, if I didn't think something was wrong with him, I would after he said that. She asks how she's supposed to live with this knowledge that she has and Dexter replies, "You just do."

Outside the station, Deb is ordering from the lunch truck. An everything burrito with a side of beans. She sees Anton and calls out to him. She seems excited to see him. She asks him what he's doing there. He was picking up from evidence his wallet, watch, and chapstick. She says that she could have brought those to him but he brushes it off. She tells him that she made detective and he excitedly congratulates her. They almost hug but think better (worse!) of it. He says that he should go and they awkwardly say goodbye to each other. Fix this, kids.

Dexter picks up Cody and Astor from school. As they're getting into his car, we see a mystery car roll up behind them. Dexter VO's that he stopped at four bars looking for Ramon and has a new appreciation for the number of Miami alcoholics. The car follows them as they pull away.

At the station, Angel pulls Deb aside. The ADA's office was requesting Anton's surveillance reports, so he read them. He's furious that Deb would sleep with a key witness. Miguel was looking into it. He says that it's a conflict and Deb should have given him the heads up before he went to Maria and recommended Deb for detective. Deb asks if he's going to spike her rec and he replies that Maria has last say, but she deserves "full disclosure." Deb doesn't like that -- she asks if he disclosed that he met Barbara when he was trolling for a hooker. Slam! He asks her how she heard that -- I actually want to know too. She realizes that she should have watched her mouth and says that she's sorry. He repeats his question and she says that she knows someone in Vice. She's the only one who knows -- she thinks. She apologizes profusely, but he says, "It's just my chickens coming home to roost." Sad but true. He walks away as she's beating herself up.

Angel enters Maria's office solemnly and states, "I met Detective Gianna while seeking the comfort of prostitutes." That's a great line. That's how I introduce people to my parents. Maria's confused. He continues -- he propositioned Barbara, she took mercy on him, he was let go with a warning, it was a dark time for him. He says that he understands if she wants to pursue a case against him, but Maria replies that laying Angel off for thinking with his dick is pretty low on her list of priorities. True dat. He corrects her though -- he was looking for simple human connection. Yeah, so was Larry Craig. She says that everyone has skeletons and she would prefer if he kept his deep in the closet. Then, he tells her about Deb and Anton.

Dexter is driving and notices the car following them. Astor asks him what they should call him once he and Rita are married. He suggests "Mr. Handsome" which gets a laugh. He wonders via VO if it's Ramon who is following them. He tells the kids that they can call him whatever they want. Cody decides they will just call him Dexter. He VO's that he's getting pissed that he's being followed with kids in the car. At a traffic light, Dex speeds through just as the light turns red. The car following him tries to run it too and has a collision, which is caught on one of those traffic light cameras. The kids see the wreck and he tells them that's what happens when drivers do stupid things. Dexter loops the block and the driver of the car is gone!

That night, at the rehearsal dinner, Rita asks Dex how his vows are coming along. He says that he's still working on them. He VO's that he's going to lob an easy question to her, and he does. He asks her what kind of vows she wrote "the first time around." And, she says that she and PAUL just recited whatever the pastor said. "Liar, Liar. Pants on Fire," he VO's. Syl walks up and says that they will be seated in 15 minutes. Suddenly, Ramon shows up, obviously stinking drunk. He sees Syl and says, "Un-fucking-believable." Dexter suggests that they talk somewhere away from everyone, but he's having none of it. He pulls a gun out and says that he should put a bullet in Dexter's head, in front of everyone, so they can see what it's like to lose someone. Just then, Angel and Deb enter and take him down. Deb includes a kick to the ribs. Ramon tells them to get their hands off him and Deb responds that she will as soon as some of his "sheriff buddies" show up.

The next day, at the station, Quinn walks by Deb's desk carrying food as she's finishing a phone call. She says that she's heard the same thing from everyone she's called -- George King was a polite gardener and they can't believe that he's The Skinner. Quinn says that he hates polite killers. He says that he heard that she took down Ramon Prado, again . Vince walks up to Quinn's desk and sticks his nose uncomfortably close to his food and asks if he's going to eat it. Not anymore. Just then, Deb gets a call about the car following Dexter (though she doesn't know he was involved). The car was stolen and they're getting a picture of the person who was driving. It was King. Skinners never quit. They're going to search the stolen car for clues.

Dexter visits Ramon in jail. He's shackled and wearing an orange jumpsuit. The officer who escorts him tells Dexter that everything has to be "by the book" and he'll be right outside the door if Ramon needs him. Those guys stick together. Dexter asks him how it feels to be sober for the first time in a week -- it sucks. Dex says that's going to be reality for him for a while, but Ramon says he'll be out in a couple of days. Dexter takes a look at the officer watching and asks quietly if that's one last coupon from his brother's influence. Ramon says that it's something like that. Ramon says that Miguel hired him as a bodyguard and he said it was to protect him from Dexter. He asks if Miguel said why he needed protection from Dex, but he didn't. Dexter says that Miguel was paranoid and needed protection from himself. Ramon doesn't want to believe it, but, for some reason, Dex breaks through. He says that he spent a lot of time with Miguel -- but not all of the time. He doesn't know what he was doing alone and neither does Syl and neither does Ramon. Dexter sits down (we see that he has Ellen's ring in his palm...to plant? Wouldn't Ramon's personal effects have been confiscated?) and reminds Ramon that he has a violent past, trashed Dexter's apartment, and stuck a gun in his face. He wants to know what his endgame is. It's to hurt Dexter, he says. Before Dexter entered their lives, everything was fine. He's actually not terribly wrong about that -- except for Ramon's drinking and Oscar's drugs and Miguel's darkness. Never mind. Ramon asks Dex what he knows about the darkness. He's hugely affected by it. Dex says that Miguel told him he kicked their father down the stairs. But no, Ramon says that he's the one who kicked dad down the stairs. Miguel took it so he could build his legend. Ramon says that he spent years trying to hold everything together, but now it's all shit. The brutality charges against him were from instances when he was trying to clean up after Miguel's fuck-ups. That could probably do with a little more explaining, but they're moving on. Ramon had been covering his ass. Dex says that Ramon's kids will soon be old enough to see him as he is -- he can stop the cycle of Prado bullshit. Ramon is overwhelmed and passive. Dex VO's that you don't always have to kill a wounded animal -- sometimes you just remove the thorn. You could also take them to the vet. Don't kill your animals just because they're wounded, people. You probably knew that though. He puts Ellen's ring back in his pocket.

In the lab, Vince is looking at something with Deb and Quinn behind him. He sees veins in a particle that he has magnified. Deb is excited because she wants it to be skin. Ew. It's a leaf though. Aw, you mean the only thing they retrieved from the car that The Skinner stole is a leaf? Well, it's a tobacco leaf. Yay! The Skinner is...a smoker? Not helpful. Except to Deb and Quinn. They remember that his former place of employment was a cigar factory. They are on the run. Really? This is like a Lassie movie.

Dexter is at a tailor getting fitted for a new suit. It looks good. He thanks the guy for working on this on such short notice. He gives Dexter a tie and tells him to tie it while he's getting his shoes. Dexter starts to tie his tie but falters for a moment. Then, a vision of Harry is beside him in an identical suit. He tells Dexter to remember what he taught him. He taught Dexter to tie a tie for his foster mother's funeral. Harry tells Dexter that both of his mothers would be very proud of him. This is how you tie a tie: The rabbit hops over the log, the rabbit crawls under the log, the rabbit runs around the log, one more time -- because the rabbit is trying to outsmart the fox, and the rabbit dives into his rabbit hole. Pay note GQ , your countless diagrams of half-Windsor knots have never been even half as helpful as that little riddle.

Back at the station, Deb and Quinn show Angel a cigar box. That's all they got from searching the cigar factory. There's 24-hour security, so there's no way that King is getting in or out.

Dexter is walking out of the tailor. He VO's that he doesn't feel antsy at all about getting married. In fact, he gets calmed. Then, he turns around and sees King just before he gets the shit knocked out of him. Seems inevitable, no? Particularly because they only really have scenes as short as the one before this when something DYNAMIC is going to happen.

The next morning, at the station, Deb sees Vince. She asks him what he's doing there on a Saturday and he says he's reviewing the evidence from King's stolen car. On her desk, she sees that Frances left a stack of files. They all have photos on them and there's a post-it on top that reads: Det. Harry Morgan's CI's. Then, Maria pops her head out of her office and asks Deb to come in. Vince is freaked -- he didn't know Maria was there and asks if he said anything bad about her. She assures him that Vince isn't the one she's going to have a problem with. We see Dexter's mom's file amongst the other files, with "DECEASED" stamped on top.

In Maria's office, she tells Deb that she can sit. Deb declines. She says that the ADA's office has noted that Deb's personal and professional lives have collided. Duh, she works with her brother. Not to mention her dead dad spends a lot of time around there too. Deb says that Anton was not technically a CI when they became involved. So, it was only a one-time thing? No. She asks if it's still going on and Deb, and this makes me very happy, says with a crinkled, confused brow that she's not sure. Maria asks if she wants it to continue and Deb starts to get a little excited. She says she's not sure, because he could be a key witness in her case. Maria nods and says that it doesn't have to be her case. This seems to peeve our Deb. She says that it's fine if Maria takes away her case and her shield, because she wanted to be with Anton. In fact, she still wants to be with Anton . And, she believes that there is no way being with him was the wrong decision. Maria says that it sounds like Deb isn't sacrificing her personal life for work. Then, she walks behind her desk. "Good for you." She pulls a badge out of her desk and hands it to Deb. "Congratulations, Detective Morgan." Deb is freaked and starts to hyperventilate a little. "What?" Maria says that Deb is one of the smartest, hardest working, most annoying pain-in-the-ass cops in her department. And, she's earned her promotion. Deb asks about the ethics probe. She says the ADA is dead and she closes a file on her desk that has Ellen's picture in it. I like that -- Miguel might get his interchange, but Dexter's sister is getting her shield. Then, Maria offers Deb a cupcake with ganache frosting. She says that Deb should hold onto her personal life because it reminds her of what's important. "Cupcakes," whispers Deb. "Abso-fucking-lutely," agrees Maria. Girls! They love chocolate and cupcakes!

Dexter wakes up tied to a table in an abandoned factory. He VO's that this is such a familiar situation but an unfamiliar perspective. We hear dissonant whistling and Dexter turns his head and sees George King. He VO's that Ramon wasn't the only person following him -- he underestimated Miguel. This is when he is supposed to feel fear, but tells the recently materialized vision of Harry that he's not afraid. Harry says that he has always been afraid that Dexter would come to a violent end. Harry says that he tried to protect him and Dexter says that he did -- this situation is his own fault for not trusting Harry. I guess this is what we've been moving towards this whole season, no? Dexter says he shouldn't have trusted Miguel, but Harry assures Dex that he did the best he could. He also says that he himself did the very best he could. Dexter says he hopes to be half as good a father to his own son. Harry is taken aback that Dex knows he's having a son. He says that he forgives Harry, who now has tears running down his face. Not only is Dexter capable of having evolving relationships with dead relatives, he has an internal sonogram. Don't you ever feel like one day Harry and Dexter will be like a team -- like Dexter will be doing some and Harry will be like, "Behind you, Dexter!" I feel like we're headed there. Dexter says that he has never seen Harry cry before and he says that they're not his tears -- they're Dexter's. It's because Dexter wants to see his child come into the world and he wants to raise it with Rita. He's upset that his life with his son is about to be taken away from him.

There's a knock at Anton's door. At least we know where The Skinner is. It's Deb. He hesitates before letting her in. I think he has more locks on his door now. Smart guy. She cuts to the chase. He's totally different from her. He's laid-back and "musician-y." He's Valium. He says that she's like Red Bull. He's the best thing that has happened to her, she says. He reminds her that he's a witness in her case, but she recused herself! She had a choice and she chose Anton. He chooses her too! They kiss just as Deb's phone rings. It's Vince. The tobacco in King's stolen car was at least a dozen years old. The cigar factory that Quinn and Deb visited has only been there for 3 years. She reminds him that this isn't her case anymore, but asks where the cigar factory was moved from.

King is still whistling a non-tune over Dexter. Dex VO's that he's familiar with the look in King's eyes. He craves control, so Dex decides to take it from him. He tells him that he killed Freebo. He describes in detail how he killed Freebo, cut up his body, and disposed of him. King starts getting excited -- he says he doesn't believe Dexter. He grabs the table that Dexter is tied to (a leg of the table tips for a moment) and asks why he would kill Freebo. He says that he has his justifications but, in the end, he did it because he has to. King may say he's going after Freebo for respect and money, but he's really just a monster. King says that he could kill him right now and Dexter says that he'll probably try to convince himself that Dex needs to be skinned for information. Way to give the guy an idea. He asks if Miguel told him that he knew where Freebo was -- because Miguel wanted him dead and would say whatever he needed to convince King to do it. King asks if Dex will be so talkative once he has his "tools" and walks away to get them.

Dexter starts to rock the table back and forth and VO's that a wolf will chew off its own paw to get out of a trap. His survival instincts are just as strong and they also fuck up his hand. He knocks the table over and it falls on his hand. King starts running back as Dexter starts to untie himself. Just as King reaches him, Dexter kicks him back. The struggle and Dex is all fighting him with one hand. He gets him in a chokehold, and then we hear sirens. King manages to cut Dexter's forearm, but Dexter manages to break his neck. With the sirens getting closer, Dexter struggles to pull King out of sight. Just as Deb and company arrive, King falls from above and is dragged several feet by a police car. Dexter takes the ropes that were binding him and escapes without anyone seeing him.

The policeman driving the car that dragged King notes that the skin from his face was removed when he was dragged. He calls Deb "Officer." She says that what goes around comes around. And, she corrects him. That shit's DETECTIVE now.

It's the wedding day, thank God. Syl tells Rita that Dexter has arrived, but he had an accident. He fell down some stairs and broke his hand, but he's fine. Rita looks pretty in her gown. Her white gown. That she's wearing at her third wedding. Diff'rent strokes. Suddenly, Dexter comes in. Syl and Astor both chide him, but he raises his cast and says that he has the "bad luck thing" covered. Syl and Astor leave and Dexter and Rita have a sweet moment together. He says that he's sorry for being late, but she says that it's not like he broke his hand on purpose. She's glowing and he seems in awe of her. As he's leaving, he VO's that he's going to let her have her secret. He's got secrets too. Now they're just alike!

Dexter is putting on his tie when Deb comes in. She tells him that King took the chicken shit way out and committed suicide. She says she feels like a transvestite in her dress. To be honest, this look isn't really her. I'm imagining it was on purpose. He's having a problem tying his tie, so Deb does the rabbit thing from behind him. She warns him not to lock his knees at the altar, for fear he might bite it. Then, she tells him that she's very happy for him and wishes their dad could be there. They hug as Dexter says he has a feeling he is there. Now, it's time to fucking get fucking hitched or however she put it.

Rita's vows end with "I honor you, I love you, I marry you." Dexter tells her that he promises to be the very best husband and father that he can be. And, that's it. He VO's that it was an utterly honest vow.

At the reception, we see everyone dancing. Dex VO's that all of his previous attempts at intimacy had ended in death. Now, he has a partner for life. We see Deb and Anton dancing -- Dex breaks in. There's Angel and Barbara dancing and kissing. Rita is dancing with Astor and Cody. Quinn and Maria are dancing. He VO's that he might be making the biggest mistake of his life. We see a vision of Harry and his mother toasting him from the apparition table at the reception. While he's dancing with Rita, he VO's that he's content at this moment, maybe even happy. We see a drop of blood escape his cast and drip onto the back of Rita's dress. Yeah, blood on a pregnant lady's dress. That's not gonna cause a fuss. Their band appears to be led by a giant saxophonist. Dexter says that life is good and that's the end of our season! So, there were some good spots in this year, but this was definitely not the best. Seriously good performances from Hall, Carpenter, Smits, and Velez. Emmys all around for these kids!

Jeff Long thanks everyone for reading this year. He hopes that everyone has a terrific holiday season. New Year's resolutions, etc. can be sent to jeff.long75@gmail.com
