Over Eating as comfort
January 8, 2007
I watched your show today about the girls who used food to comfort their emotions. The one girl who was adopted and her parents divorced really concerned me. The dad seemed like he really did not get it. I don't know how well he will do in therapy. I wished one of the questions you would have asked him was "What if your daughter was anorixic or bulimic"? They are still going to fight about food no matter whether she over eats or does not eat at all. As a teen I was over weight and always faught with my parents about how much I ate. Now I am anorixic and bulimic because of their comments of my weight.
I'm 39 years old and I know how hard it is to deal with parents who only focus on weight. My daughter is heavy and my son is really skinny. Some of my daughters is inherited from her fathers side.
This young girl might have family genetics that she does not know about since she is adopted. She might have to always be careful with her eating. The family really needs to look into this issue as well.
Thank You for a great show

I feel you should do a show on suicide survivors
January 6, 2007
Dr Dr. Ablow,
I watched the episode of when you were dealing with families in crisis about abusing pain medications. Well I also take pain medications after 4 severe motor vehicle accidents and live with severe chronic pain from migraines to back pain to black outs etc.
However, the topic I would like to see you put on if at all possible is surviving suicide and dealing with suicidal ideations and the not wanting to be here permanently. Since I was a child I was adopted into a home at the age of 2 years old and was abused physically but also mentally and when I turned 18 I was diagnosed with major depression re-curring.
I am wondering if you as a psychiatrist might be able to help me ? I have tried to commit suicide since I was 11 years old and now suffer withPTSD and also Borderline personality disorder.
If you would like to respond back to me you can do so @ dmacleod2002@yahoo.com
Please feel free to notify me ASAP
Sincerely,
Duncan MacLeod

Anger Illness
January 11, 2007
DR. Keith
I viewed your show on anger illness that aired on 01/11/2007. and was exspecially interested in the segmant with a guest named Kim. I believe that her story is nothing but an out. I feel that she is using this anger illness as an out to mask her real fillings against her son. Thier was no father figure mentioned . I believe that she has rage towards her sons father and is taking it out on her son. As a Grown adult I became very out raged myself and had to change channels .

agoraphobic wife

I UNDERSTAND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE ANXIETY DISORDERS. THE MAJORITY OF THOSE PEOPLE TAKE EITHER AN ANTIDEPRESSANT AND / OR ANXIETY MEDS. I TAKE PROZAC, SO I DO HAVE AN INFORMED OPINION.
MELISSA SEEMS TO HAVE A VERY ENTITLED, NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS HER HUSBAND. DOES SHE EVER CONSIDER NOT ONLY THE STRESS OF DOING EVERYTHING, BUT HOW HUMILATED HE MUST BE TO HAVE HER AS A WIFE? SHE WON'T GO TO HIS COMPANY FUNCTIONS OR TO DINNER WITH HIS COWORKERS. WIVES (ESPECIALLY STAY AT HOME WIVES) GENERALLY SUPPORT THEIR HUSBAND'S CAREERS. DOES SHE CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO THEIR MARRIAGE?? SHE IS LUCKY HE HAS PUT UP WITH HER FOR SO MANY YEARS. SO HER MOM SAID MEAN THINGS TO HER 20 YEARS AGO. GET OVER IT!!!!! SOMETHING HURTFUL IS SAID TO EVERYONE AT SOME TIME. WHAT ABOUT MELISSA SAYING HER HUSBAND WANTS HER TO STAY "ILL." ?? ISN'T THAT HURTFUL TO LINDSEY?? I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORE SELFISH PERSON THAN MELISSA.
