Carter's surgical internship is interrupted as Fourth of July accident victims cause a return trip to the ER. Benton and Jeanie find out their HIV status. Hathaway rejoins the ER team for the paycheck.
The rumormill spins out a doozy... that the hospital may be closing. Jeanie tries to balance her HIV positive status with her work and personal life.
A new intern comes aboard. The new chief of staff rubs the ER personel the wrong way. Benton joins forces with a pediatric surgeon. Weaver discovers that Jeanie is HIV positive. Carter's apartment building burns down.
Carter takes temporary shelter with Gant. A wild night on the town ends poorly for Dr. Ross. Dr. Keaton praises Carter for his compassion and chastises Benton for his lacking.
A costumed Frankenstein comes in with a gunshot wound. Ross and Hathaway take the Healthmobile duty for the night. Gant believes Benton is being tougher on him than on Carter to prove that race has nothing to do with his evaluations.

When Greene treats Al, he's suspicious of Jeanie's condition. Ross tries to help Hathaway in her pre-med quest.
With rumors running around the ER, Jeanie decides to come forward with her HIV status. Charlie looks to Ross for help with a sick baby. Greene inherits a dog from a dying homeless man.

Carla and Benton's baby is born premature and the tension threatens their good relations. Ross helps give Hathaway a surprise birthday. Greene returns to work after some recovering from the beating he received in the bathroom.
