Meanwhile, Tonya practices to beat Drew at checkers; and, Julius tries to bet on basketball against Rochelle's wishes.
Chris sneaks and listens to Red Foxx's comedy albums behind his parents' backs, and although the joke-telling makes him friends, it certainly does nothing to endear him from the teachers, who discipline him at school. Meanwhile, Drew tries to fight off an interested girl from the neighborhood.
Chris' struggles with math prompts Rochelle to initiate a math boot camp in the house. But Chris doesn't respond to her militaristic tutoring style and decides to go behind his mother's back and get help from Grandma Maxine, a former algebra teacher. Meanwhile, Drew breaks Julius' chair but Tonya takes the blame for it so that she can have Drew indebted to her.
