Why is "Curb Your Enthusiasm" so darn funny? Because just like star/producer/creator Larry David's last little TV project called show called "Seinfeld," "Curb" — and everyone on it — takes absolutely nothing seriously. There are no lessons learned, no "very special episodes," and no subject that's off-limits. From death to religion to race, no "don't-go-there" joke is ever spared. And just when you think the neurotic Larry can't dig himself into a deeper hole — whether it’s embarrassing his wife, appalling his celebrity friends, or antagonizing the cable guy — he does. This season, the partially improvised comedy will treat viewers to a "Seinfeld" reunion when Larry gathers the old gang back together for some comedy gold. Think there's no way you'd be able to sympathize with a serial killer? Get back to us after you've rooted for Dexter Morgan to pull out the ice-pick and slice up the body in time to make it home for dinner before his girlfriend gets suspicious. A sociopathic blood-spatter expert with the Miami Dade Metro Police Department, "Dexter" just can't help himself. He was trained by his cop foster-father to channel deadly impulses into killing those who deserve it: other murderers. Over the last season or so, however, his plans have gone awry, and a few non-killers have wound up dead. Still, you'll find yourself supporting him all the way. It's hard to imagine anyone but Michael C. Hall playing this fascinating man leading two different lives since he does it so brilliantly. And this season his character will be taking on yet another role: father. Only time will tell if diaper duty will interfere with Dexter's extracurricular activities. On "Bored to Death," Jonathan (Jason Schwartzman) is a novelist who's struggling with writer's block, a drinking problem, and a breakup with his live-in girlfriend. An offhand suggestion that he seek a rebound via Craigslist — combined with some alcohol, of course, and a little inspiration from a Philip Marlowe detective novel — leads him to post an ad offering his unlicensed services as a private investigator. Before you know it, the phone's ringing and he's meeting women and feeling inspired (but still drinking). In an amazing example of well-timed casting, Zach Galifianakis (the weirdo beardo from "The Hangover") co-stars as his comic-book-artist friend, Ray. Ted Danson plays George, a pompous magazine editor who sometimes hires Jonathan to cover social events, but more often hits him up for pot. A show about a sex-crazed, hard-drinking novelist who lives with constant regret over not marrying the love of his life when he had the chance — it doesn't really sound like a comedy, does it? Well, that's just because you haven't seen the situations Hank Moody (David Duchovny) gets himself into, many of which are too raunchy to mention here. In Season 3 of "Californication," Moody's restraint will be put to the test when he becomes a college professor. How will he balance his libido with his professional responsibilities and his newly increased parental duties? (Daughter Becca is all his now, since her mother moved to New York at the end of Season 2.) Let's just say that although Hank teaches English, his daughter is going to accidentally walk in on an anatomy lesson. Two seasons of so-so ratings would spell doom for any other show, but not for our intrepid "Gossip Girl." The show, which is an adaptation of the popular book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, has defied all odds to become one of the most popular teen dramas on television. When it hit the air, fans flocked to the New York City set hoping to catch a glimpse of the actors, girls began emulating the characters' wardrobes, and teens started adding phrases like "XOXO" and "You know you love me" into their everyday conversations. As if the show's almost-too-attractive-to-be-believable cast weren't enough, the over-the-top plotlines, hip soundtrack, cheesy dialogue, and witty narrative have us gossiping with our friends too, anticipating hookups, breakups, and meltdowns. "Gossip Girl" has fast become TV's best guilty pleasure. We mock the show's heightened reality concept, yet we can't help but absolutely adore every scandalous bit of it. Nobody knows quite what to expect from "The Jay Leno Show," but we know what not to expect: "The Tonight Show" at 10 p.m. No, Jay promises his push into prime time will bring with it a new look and feel. In addition to the opening monologue, there will be pretaped bits featuring a variety of comedians, and the stage is reportedly set up to encourage "off the couch" interaction with guests. Plus, Jay says we'll be seeing a lot of "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams. The uncertainty about how it'll all play out is just one part of what makes this show so eagerly anticipated. The other part? Big-name celebrities! On Jay's first night, he'll welcome guest Jerry Seinfeld and musical performers Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Rihanna. "90210" isn't as sugary sweet as its popular predecessor, but trust us, it's just as delicious. Admittedly the show started off shaky, but when "90210" found its rhythm it started rewarding viewers with teenage meltdowns of legendary proportions. Drugs, teen pregnancy, multiple broken hearts, dysfunctional family drama, and love tore through the ritzy ZIP like a tornado. We understand that many of you hardcore "Melrose Place" fans want to write the reboot off, but do yourselves a favor and tune in to this fresh take on the Aaron Spelling classic. Filled with outlandish storylines, demented dialogue, and the kookiest characters on primetime TV, this overly dramatic soap has still got it goin’ on, 10 years after the original series bowed out in ’99 after an astonishing 226 episodes. And, with seductress Sydney Andrews (played to perfection by Laura Leighton) and scheming Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) back in the mix, how could you not want to witness all of the backstabbing, blackmailing, and bitchiness? Trust us; even the diabolical Amanda Woodward would be proud of the program, the refurbished apartment complex, and its pretty and prickly new residents. "The Good Wife" might be the best new drama of the season. Actually, it's so good it could even give the returning shows a run for their money. Julianna Margulies returns to prime time as a politician's wife who has just been humiliated by her husband’s very public sex-and-corruption scandal, which also happened to land him in jail and her back in the work force as a junior defense attorney. From its emotionally-charged setup to its courtroom setting, and a cast that includes other hotshots like Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, and Chris Noth, "The Good Wife" is a sure thing. It's baaaaaack! That's right, the summer's most exciting show, "So You Think You Can Dance" (or "SYTYCD," as we die-hard fans refer to it), returns for its very first fall run! Forget that "Dancing With the Stars" fluff. This is the real deal. A fresh batch of talented teens and twentysomethings will battle it out to become the next big thing in the grueling world of dance. It'll be more than difficult to find someone with the athleticism, grace, and attitude of past winners, but we’re confident in TV's most dynamic duo: judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy. Yes, they tend to be longwinded and shrill (well, Mary at least), but with the help of the esteemed troupe of choreographers (Mia Michaels is a genius) and viewers who actually vote for their favorite contestants, Nigel and Mary will likely preside over yet another nail-biting season of unbelievable dancing. "Modern Family" is a gem rarely found in a fall TV season — it's a really funny sitcom pilot. We were convinced that it must be nearly impossible to achieve such a feat, but then along comes Ed O'Neill and his clan of contemporary familial misfits, and we literally laughed until we cried. Look for the hilarious portrayal of a middle-aged dad who wants his kids to think he’s cool so he memorizes (and performs) a routine from "High School Musical." Although the concept of "Glee" -- a musical comedy set in a small-town high school -- isn't exactly groundbreaking, the show is far from your typical "High School Musical" affair. The performances are worked into the plots, so that the characters aren't just randomly bursting into song and dance. Plus the story lines are edgy. There's no Disney sugarcoating, and "Glee" doesn't shy away from talking about sex, drugs, and all the other messy teen issues "HSM" wouldn't dare touch with a mile-long stick. It boasts a promising young cast, outstanding music, hilarity, heart, and it's just all-around fun. Plus, it's got Jane Lynch, and any show with Lynch in it is a good one in our book! It's this combination of mass destruction and bizarre phenomenon that makes "FlashForward" so intriguing. Co-written by David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins," "Blade"), it stars Joseph Fiennes and John Cho as FBI agents who must make sense of this inexplicable event while coming to grips with their own disturbing visions of what the future holds. "The Office" isn't the only show on the block with an offbeat mockumentary style (thanks to Amy Poehler's "Parks & Recreation" and ABC's upcoming "Modern Family"), but it certainly does it best. After five seasons, we still get a kick out of cutie Jim mugging for the camera and grumpy Stanley complaining about his coworkers. In this comedy based on a BBC series, leading man Steve Carell is the show-stealer, playing Michael Scott, the insecure and socially inept regional manager of the Dunder Mifflin paper company's Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch. Last season threw plenty of variation into the Dunder Mifflin workday as Michael attempted to form his own company, a frustrated new boss (played by British hottie Idris Elba) tried to steer the sinking ship, and temp-turned-executive-turned-criminal Ryan came back to work. There's just something about a good old soapy medical drama full of romance, breakups, and medical miracles that always keeps us coming back for more. Sure, the doctors and nurses at Seattle Grace Hospital spend a lot of time getting it on in the on-call room, but they always come out ready to save a kid with cancer and bring tears to our eyes. Though it's called "Grey's Anatomy," intern-turned-resident Meredith Grey isn't really the lead anymore since the ensemble show has started giving everyone a turn as the main focus. And thanks to a roster of gorgeous actors like Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigl, and Eric Dane, this is one hospital that's easy on the eyes. Do we really need to explain why "30 Rock" is on our list? OK, how about we break it down into the two most important components of a sitcom: 1) Funny Situation? Check. Liz Lemon’s life is a joke; she’s a single 30-something (knocking on 40-something) career gal with hilariously poor life skills. Give her some cheese and an attractive man and just watch her unravel. 2) Funny Comedy? Check. The show isn’t amassing a collection of Emmys in the comedy category for nothing. The cast includes Tracy Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer, Jane Krakowski, Judah Friedlander, and occasionally (Mr. Amy Poehler himself) Will Arnett. A procedural starring a psychic detective would be interesting ... if you could suspend disbelief long enough to buy into that sort of thing. Luckily, you won't have to with "The Mentalist," which focuses on the crime-solving abilities of Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), a former well-known psychic medium who has since admitted there's no such thing as extrasensory perception. He goes about catching bad guys the same way he went about fooling customers and TV talk-show audiences — by using his extraordinary powers of observation and persuasion. He's so good, in fact, that a lot of people still believe he's psychic, which only helps scare the guilty into slipping up and revealing themselves. You know it, you love it. Yes, "Project Runway" is back for another season of fun, fashion, drama, and tips from the "make it work" mentor Tim Gunn. Incidentally, this is the show's first season on Lifetime after leaving its Bravo home of five seasons. Honestly, there aren't many shows that we've loved more. With its casts of outrageously talented designers tasked to create runway-worthy masterpieces, we've been diehard fans season after season. Season 4 winner Christian Siriano remains all over the media, proving this show can definitely launch a successful career. Who will be in, and who will be out? We'll be tuning in for some unforgettable challenges, and of course to get our weekly fashion fix because, after all, you can never have too many clothes. We loved the first season of "Dollhouse." The premise of humans being implanted with new personalities at the whim of the highest bidder was certainly alluring, but we really tuned in to see what "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon had up his sleeve. Throughout the first season, Whedon toyed with the various scenarios (and side effects) of what that type of technology might produce, and each episode revealed one moral (or technical) dilemma after another. And on top of that, we witnessed some of the best butt-kicking by a female on TV last year. Go Eliza Dushku! "Dollhouse" is one sexy sci-fi show we’ll definitely be watching.
