Frasier struggles with his loss of personal space after Martin and Daphne have settled in. He tries to find a quiet place to read his book but is constantly thwarted, leading to a great deal of tension between Frasier and his father.
Frasier and Niles want to take Martin for a nice meal at an expensive restaurant. When the restaurant loses their reservation, Martin convinces them to go to his favorite restaurant, The Timbermill. Frasier and Niles insult Martin with their rude comments about the place, and the brothers realize they are a bit snobby.
When newspaper columnist Derek Mann writes a bad review of Frasier's radio show, Frasier insults him on the air. Derek challenges Frasier to a fist fight, and Frasier ultimately accepts after giving a variety of excuses.
Frasier buys Martin a telescope as a gift, and Martin starts spying on people in other buildings. He sees a woman, Irene, looking through her own telescope at him, and the two start writing notes to each other. Irene asks Martin on a date, but Martin declines because he is afraid of what she'll think about his bad hip and having to use a cane. Frasier tells Marco, one of his callers, to break up with his girlfriend Catherine because of his unwillingness to commit. Frasier begins dating Catherine after meeting her and is faced with an ethical dilemma when Marco expresses his desire to get back together with her.
Frasier and Niles accidentally see Martin with Marion, an old family friend, at a restaurant. After seeing how they acted with each other, Frasier and Niles do some investigating and suspect that Martin and Marion had an affair. He decides to try every product before endorsing them and hires Bulldog's agent, Bebe Glazer, as his new agent. He balks at the chance to do a TV commercial for a brand of nuts that he doesn't like, even though Bebe tries to con him into doing the bit.
Bulldog overhears Frasier discussing a rumor that Bulldog is going to be fired due to station cutbacks. An infuriated Bulldog confronts the station manager and quits, even though the truth is that Bulldog was not going to be fired. Martin's physician, who is about Frasier's age, dies unexpectedly. Frasier begins to obsess about his own mortality and makes out his will. Unable to focus on anything else, Frasier attends the physician's Shiva and speaks to his wife. While comforting her, Frasier realizes that it is important to live life to the fullest rather than obsess about one's mortality.
Upon learning that his son Frederick will not be visiting for Christmas, Frasier volunteers to work at the radio station on Christmas Day. After hearing calls from a number of depressed listeners, Frasier goes to a local diner where a number of homeless people are eating dinner. When Frasier realizes that he forgot his wallet, the homeless people collect enough money for Frasier to pay for his meal.
Roz begins dating Noel Shempsky, a co-worker who is obsessed with "Star Trek." Martin asks to have the apartment one night for his date with Elaine, a woman who lives in Frasier's building. Frasier is thrown off-guard when Elaine is still there in the morning and embarrasses her and Martin. Frasier further digs himself a hole when he mentions the incident on his radio show.

Martin convinces a wary Frasier to participate in a charity bachelor auction. A beautiful model, Kristina, purchases Frasier, and the two arrange a date at his apartment. Daphne is forced to bid on Bulldog by Martin and goes to a Sonics game with him. Frasier's romantic plans are averted when he must look after Kristina's daughter Renata when she is called in to a quick modeling gig.
When Roz is scammed out of some money, Frasier claims that he is able to spot a criminal on the spot. His skills are put to the test by Martin when he invites a few friends over for poker, one of which spent some time in jail. Daphne is attracted to the ex-con and arranges a date with him, much to the chagrin of Frasier, Martin and Niles.
Frasier's ex-wife Lilith comes to Seattle for a convention. Lilith comes to Frasier's apartment for dinner with the Crane men, and things are pretty uncomfortable for everyone. Lilith reveals her true motives for coming to Seattle: she is hoping that she and Frasier might reconcile and give their relationship another shot.
A visit from Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) stirs old feelings.
Frasier advises Niles that he needs to spice up his love life with Maris. When things backfire and they get into a fight, Niles plans a romantic evening to reconcile with Maris. Daphne agrees to help Niles with the evening, and when Maris is stuck in Arizona, the two are trapped alone together at Niles' mansion during a heavy storm and blackout. Frasier tries to get to Daphne before Niles makes a big mistake.
Frasier is nominated for a local broadcasting award, a Seabee. His agent Bebe and Roz urge Frasier to campaign hard for the award, and Frasier buys the voting committee a series of expensive gifts. Frasier feels bad about his tactics upon learning that his competition is a Seattle radio legend who has been nominated 11 times and never won. The award ends up going, in a tie, to two other nominees.

Frasier gets rid of Martin's favorite chair and replaces it with a new one, claiming that it will be better for Martin. Martin is furious and demands that Frasier find his old chair. Frasier finally tracks it to the set of a school's production of "Ten Little Indians," and the director forces him to play a role in the production in order to get the chair back.
After forgetting Roz's name during his radio show, Frasier begins worrying about the fact that he is middle-aged. He finds himself flirting with an attractive and younger store clerk and realizes that he is going through a mid-life crisis.
Frasier, Niles, Martin, Daphne and Eddie set off in a Winnebago on a trip to see Mount Rushmore. During the drive, Martin accidentally drives them over the Canadian border, a place where Daphne is not allowed due to her citizenship status. They are stopped by the border patrol when trying to leave Canada, but Martin gets them out of trouble when he shows his police badge.
Frasier and Niles decide to collaborate on a self-help book. When they find constant distractions, they lock themselves in a hotel room and vow not to come out until they finish the book. Tensions flare when the brothers cannot seem to agree on anything.
Frasier comes down with the flu and cannot do his radio program. He is first replaced by food critic Gil Chesterton, and then Niles fills in as a guest host. When Niles receives positive feedback for his program, Frasier imagines a plot against him and tries to get back on his show sooner than he should.
Frasier and Niles meet at Cafe Nervosa for their routine cup of coffee. While there, they discuss Frasier's one-year anniversary of being back in Seattle and whether or not Frasier is happy. Niles comes clean to Frasier that he is not completely happy with his life, and Frasier asks Niles if he is in love with Daphne.
