Episode 1 Originally aired: July 10, 2008The twelve dogs and their owners arrive at Canine Academy. The dogs must compete in a talent show to impress the judges. The first challenge is won by JD and Galaxy and they send David and Elvis to the doghouse. Michael and Ezzie lose the Best of Show challenge and are sent home.

Episode 2 Originally aired: July 17, 2008An owner's mistake during obedience testing throws a front-runner off the track. Elane and Kenji are eliminated.

Off the Leash
Episode 3 Originally aired: July 24, 2008Elvis and David work hard to shatter Elvis' reputation as a "Jack Russell Terrorist." The dog owners must work together to free their dogs from a challenge called "Tangled Leash." Two of the owners bond over the common love of their dogs. The judges eliminate David and Elvis.

Episode 6 Originally aired: August 6, 2008The remaining eight teams of dogs and owners display their talents on the dance floor. In addition, the "Mud Dog gin'" Dog Bone Competition gets down and dirty when the dogs have to prove their balance and coordination. Brandy and Beacon are expelled.

Episode 8 Originally aired: August 13, 2008The dogs express themselves creatively in a Best in Show painting competition. Laura and Preston are eliminated.

The Big Dig
Episode 9 Originally aired: August 20, 2008For the Dog Bone Challenge the dogs must free one of the owners from a box covered in mulch. Travis and Bill and their dogs win. For the next challenge, the dogs must lead three puppies out of a maze. Beth Joy and Bella are sent home.

Episode 10 Originally aired: August 27, 2008The dogs face an elephant in the Dog Bone Competition. The contestants get a chance to fly and Bill and Star are expelled.

Episode 11 Originally aired: September 3, 2008An injury threatens to pull a canine from the competition. Teresa and Leroy are expelled.

The Greatest American Dog Is…
Episode 12 Originally aired: September 10, 2008The Final Three teams compete in an elaborate Best in Show competition which combines some of the more challenging competitions. All 12 teams reunite for the final evaluation where Travis and Presley are crowned the winners of the "Greatest American Dog."
