Should be brought back
March 3, 2008I loved the show because it was about modern day vampires and the way they lived. I like the way it changed from today to way back. I thought McCloud was a very sexy man. And as far as his girlfriends I didn't think he had but 2. I may be wrong. I never watched it until my son which is 34 turned me onto it. I was hooked immediately. It was something I could anticipate every week.

Why TV shows are sometimes better than movies
September 12, 2007When I saw (many years ago) that there would be a Highlander TV series, I was skeptical, because I thought there was no way they could do justice to what had been a great (original) movie. However, I gave it a chance, and found why TV and movies are different (much like books and movies) and valuable in their own ways.
The TV version of highlander allowed the creators to explore the life of an immortal in depth. The shows did not have to have an over the top villian, only a conflict or challenge, that introduced some aspect of the character that we perhaps had not seen before.
And this character, at least for the first 2 seasons, was in a committed relationship - how rare. Like many, I was as devestated as Duncan when he lost Tessa; I did not need him to be constantly attracted to different women (they had a wonderful, full, and very sexy relationship). But that was part of what happens to an immortal, so things changed.
The conceit of the series allowed for all sorts of stories, modern day and flashback, serious and humorous. As with most series, extending the run beyond a few years made for more strained story lines. The first few years were the best, but all were worthy.
Adrian Paul is very talented, and it's been a shame that he's never found another place to make his mark. The movies that have come out have tried to go the movie route and have ignored the stories and characters as laid out in the series, while forcibly taking on the traditional 'mega-villian....rendering the whole effort a waste. I'll watch the upcoming Highlander the Source on Sci-Fi with some trepidation, and perhaps hope for some glimmer of the old days, when violence was only a small portion of the action, while we instead had time to look into the character's soul and see the drama and humor.
Peace to Adrian, and here's hoping for the best. Was this review helpful to you? Sign in to rate -
