Kris Allen

Originally from Jacksonville, AR, Kris Allen – a Top 36 semifinalist on season eight of “American Idol” (Fox, 2002- ) – was a student at the University of Central Arkansas. He has been singing and playing the guitar since he was 13 years old. Ending up a bit of a dark horse, Allen made it through each week with a growing fan base who appreciated his unique take on simple arrangements and crisp, clear vocals. Although overshadowed by the flamboyant Adam Lambert, who became his biggest competition, Allen's devoted fans put him over the top during the show's big finale. No one appeared more shocked than Allen, himself, when his name was called as the next American Idol.
