Season 4,  Episode 6

Episode Description

Originally Aired: February 21, 2008

Locke asks Ben, who he is holding hostage, for information. Ben mocks John for his inability to know what to do next. Sawyer wants Kate to move in with him, but she won't. He asks if it is because of the pregnancy thing. We flash forward to Kate pleading not guilty in court to all her crimes. Back on the beach, Sun and Jin are discussing where they will live once off the island, when Jack shows up and introduces everyone to Faraday and Charlotte. Kate tricks Hurley into telling her that Miles is being held in the boathouse. Kate goes there, and asks Miles if he knows who she is and what she did. Miles says he will tell her everything she needs to know if he can just talk to Ben for one minute. In the flash forward, Kate's lawyer tries to convince her to bring her son in as a character witness, but she refuses. Back in the barracks, Claire and Kate talk about Claire's baby, Aaron, and what being a mom is like. Back in the flash forward, Jack comes forward at Kate's trial and speaks as a character witness. He says that only 8 people survive the crash and starts going on about Kate's heroics but she stops him. The prosecution asks Jack if he is in love with Kate. He says no, that he used to be but not anymore. Back at the barracks, Kate asks Sawyer to help her get Ben out of the basement. Sawyer goes to see Locke, and tells him about Kate's plan to break Ben out. Locke and Sawyer run to the boathouse, but Miles is gone. Kate has untied him and taken him to Locke's basement to see Ben. Miles asks Ben if he knows who he works for, and Ben admits that he does. Miles says that "he" has put a lot of time and energy into finding him. He also says that, for 3.2 million dollars, he'll tell the man in charge that Ben is dead. Kate then pulls Miles away and he admits he knows who she is. He tells her she'd be better off staying on the island. Just as they are leaving, Locke bursts in and tells Kate to go home. Later, she tells Locke about the blackmail scheme, but he still wants her to leave by morning. In flash forward, Kate's mother comes to visit her. She tells Kate she won't testify against her, she just wants to meet her grandson. Kate refuses. Back at the barracks, Kate goes to spend the night with Sawyer. The next morning on the beach, Jack wants to know why the phone won't let him get in touch with the freighter. Charlotte tells Jack about an emergency number, and they call it. Regina answers and reveals that she had no idea the helicopter even took off. It's been over a day, and they've still had no contact with it. In the boathouse, Locke visits a tied-up Miles and shoves a grenade in his mouth so that if he opened his mouth wider, the grenade would go off. In Sawyer's room, Kate tells Sawyer that she's positive she isn't pregnant. She goes to leave, but when Sawyer calls her out on the fact that she's probably going to run back to Jack, she backhands him and takes off. In the last flash forward, Kate's mother is unwilling to testify, so the prosecution wants to make a deal with the defense. Kate will get ten years probation and won't be allowed to leave the state, but otherwise she's a free woman. As she's leaving the courthouse, Jack stops her and tells her he didn't mean what he said about not being in love with her. Kate invites Jack to her place, but he's reluctant to go because he doesn't want to see the baby. Kate gets home and goes up to see her baby. It's Aaron, Claire's son.
