'Awake': Watch the Series Premiere in Full Before It Airs

One of last year's most intriguing and acclaimed new TV pilots was NBC's mind-bending thriller "Awake," starring Jason Isaacs ("Brotherhood") as a cop living two very different lives. Which made it all the more disappointing when "Awake" didn't make it onto the network's fall schedule… or its midseason one, either. (They were saving room for "The Playboy Club," we guess.)

But after months of wondering whether it was ever going to air at all, "Awake" finally has a solid premiere date: March 1 at 10 PM on NBC. And even better, you don't have to wait any longer to see it. You can watch the series premiere in full right here, two weeks before it airs.

The premise (from "Lone Star" creator Kyle Killen) is admittedly a little tricky: Isaacs plays Detective Michael Britten, who, after suffering a horrific car crash with his wife (Laura Allen) and teen son (Dylan Minnette), finds himself living in two separate realities. In one, his wife survived the crash and his son did not. But when he goes to sleep, he wakes up in a world in which his son survived the crash, but his wife didn't. On the job, Michael has different partners ("That '70s Show's" Wilmer Valderrama and "The Practice's" Steve Harris) and works on different cases in the two realities -- but details from one world are starting to bleed over into the other. Which reality is real? Or is all of this in Michael's mind?

Critics are already big fans of "Awake" -- but we want to know what you think. After you watch the premiere, give us your impressions in the comments. Is "Awake" too high-concept to attract a wide audience? Or will its original premise and smart execution earn it a loyal fan base?

"Awake" premieres Thursday, 3/1 at 10 PM on NBC.

I love it! Unfortunately, intelligent shows like this don't last long - I hope it proves me wrong...I would love to see it have a good LONG run! (Going to program my DVR now!!!)

Hehe, intelligent shows. Well, I guess when you set the bar low...intelligent...hehehe.
      • Lizzz 3 months ago
Intelligent shows? What could you possibly see about this show that could be described as intelligent?
      • Lizzz 3 months ago
And like LOST, they will drag out the plot as long as people will watch it and keep trying to figure out where to go with the ridiculous premise as they go along and it will become either frustrating enough for people to shut it off, or completely boring and predictable.

So, this is what happened to Lucius after the War....he's gone to try and reform himself by interacting with Muggles. Interesting.

Finally, some imagination! It has been a long time coming that we get back to immaginative shows. Is it to high concept? No. How sad that you even have to ask that. The take over of all the reality crap has really dulled the senses of the human race.

Networks have made trillions underestimating the taste and intelligence of the American viewer. However, occasionally one good one does slip through. This season, Person of Interest is really quite good, with a futuristic, big brother feel to it. I actually wear my silver foil hat when I watch it. I like the premise of this one and will give it a viewing.

this sounds nearly identical to LIFE on MARS. Why could't they have just renewed that show? Oh yeah, it was ABC
      • richard 3 months ago
Apparently, only two of us ever watched Life on Mars. Explains alot.

Also positions us nicely to say "I told you so" when it's cancelled and, in the final episode, he wakes up and finds it was all a dream. Some of these folks need to get out more. Really -- a "new concept" ? Also explains why the same pooh idea gets recycled from network to network.

I already figured out the finale. He's really in a coma as a result of the wreck, and both "lives" are in his head.

He is still in the wrecked car , his wife and son are still alive and he is in the early stage of death , the stage of non-acceptance.

Watched this last night on on demand and enjoyed it. However while some of the concept of the story is original the part where he is waking up in two different realities every time he sleeps is not. The books Black , Red, and White by Ted Dekker have this same concept. However this does seem quite original in exploring a man's unique way of dealing with his grief and keeps you guessing along with him as to which reality is real. Will be watching this.

      like it, will definitely watch

Up against "The Mentalist" which follows "Person of Interst" as a lead in? Good Luck.
    • Dianne  •  Los Angeles, California  •  2 months ago
I love it and making it happen to a detective who's life revolves around finding answers to things that happen should make it really exciting....I love trying to solve mysteries in stories along with the main character....I hope the action scenes become a little more realistic that they were in the clip.... I don't want to try to figure out if it is really a tv program I am watching or if I am just dreaming..... lol
    • Azerena  •  3 months ago
This sounds basically the same as "My Own Worse Enemy", which I really liked until they cancelled it.

sadly this show won't last and for one reason only. It requires people to THINK which most people either can't or won't do.
