The Red Wedding is a tough act to follow.
With "Game of Thrones" fans still reeling from the stunning sequence last week, the quieter Season 3 finale was bound to feel like a letdown.
"Mhysa" wrapped up a few threads, moved characters along their journeys, and ended on a triumphant note, with Daenerys Targaryen hailed as a savior by the former slaves of Yunkai.
But there wasn't a major death, or a big plot twist, or a heart-stopping cliffhanger, which left some viewers disappointed:
Last night's #gameofthrones was like going back to watching kids play ball in the park after having watched the World Cup final.— Winter Is Coming (@jazy736) June 10, 2013

Then again, a quiet season finale after a blockbuster penultimate episode is what "Game of Thrones" does. "Baelor," with Ned Stark's beheading, and "Blackwater," featuring the epic battle, were both penultimate episodes. The finales that followed set up storylines for the next season; "Mhysa" did the same, leaving us with many burning questions for Season 4.
"This was an excellent hour-plus of 'GoT,'" wrote HitFix critic Alan Sepinwall. "It didn't have anything as grand and baroque as the Red Wedding, but instead took advantage of its slightly extended running time — and the reduced cast we have after last week — to offer us a deeper glimpse of the power dynamics among the survivors."
Even though the finale was not a showstopper, it whetted fans' appetites for the next season, which sadly will not air until 2014.
I really have an issue with the amount of time in between seasons of @gameofthrones. It's just as bad as Theon's torture...— Sarah Hyland(@Sarah_Hyland) June 10, 2013
