'The Bachelor' Week 8 Recap: The Top Five Highlights

This week was "The Bachelor's" high-stakes hometown visits episode, and it did the show good to give the women a reprieve from each other. The episode hit a significantly less scandalous note as Ben trekked across America to meet the families of his four chosen women, finding that some were more welcoming than others. The lack of nudity and backstabbing made this episode an anomaly, but the shocking results of the heartbreaking rose ceremony were a can't-miss moment. Here are the highlights:

    Lindzi Saddles Up
Ben's travels started with a trip to Ocala, Florida, where he met up with Lindzi, with whom he had deepened his connection last week during a romantic one-on-one date. For the second time this season, she made her grand entrance on a horse, and soon had Ben riding around in a horse-drawn carriage. Over a picnic lunch, Lindzi once again opened up about her terrible breakup (her ex, with whom she was living, sent her a text welcoming her to "Dumpsville"). Ben appreciated seeing this serious side of the usually giddy Lindzi.

The horse theme continued as the couple took their carriage over to Lindzi's parents' house, where Lindzi made sure to repeatedly refer to Ben as her "boyfriend." Her parents instantly put Ben at ease with their playfulness, even challenging him to a carriage race. He seemed almost as smitten with her folks as he did with Lindzi herself, remarking on her dad's potential as a replacement father figure. Ben left Florida after a day of conflict-free fun, and the success of the visit clarified a thing or two for him. "I think that I might be falling in love with Lindzi," he said.

Tennessee Is Tense With Kacie B.

Kacie B., the show's youngest remaining contestant at age 24, welcomed Ben to the Bible Belt in style with a surprise marching band on her school's football field. She continued her reign as this season's sweetheart with a wholesome baton-twirling routine that topped off the performance.

Clearly ecstatic to see Ben, she shared a sweet story on the bleachers about the enduring love of her grandparents. Yet Ben was more preoccupied with what she had to say about her father, a federal probation officer who doesn't drink. As a winemaker, Ben was instantly nervous. "My business is booze. Strike 1," he gulped.

The friction continued from there, as Ben experienced more resistance from Kacie B.'s parents than most Bachelors encounter during the entire week of hometown dates. The traditional twosome were especially worried about the possibility that Ben might want to move in with their daughter after getting engaged -- a concern that caught Ben off guard.  Kacie B.'s dad was even tougher on her, telling her that he would refuse to give her hand in marriage to Ben until they got to know each other better. We're guessing that her folks don't watch much reality TV.

Poor Kacie B. became aware that things were devolving quickly, and her goodbye with Ben was stiffer and more uncertain than we've ever seen these two act around each other. "All of a sudden, everything is going wrong and I don't know how to fix it," she worried.

    Nicki Goes for Seconds
Despite acknowledging that his emotional connection with Nicki isn't as developed as with the other ladies, Ben was obviously excited to meet the vivacious divorcee in Fort Worth, Texas. She was even more thrilled to see him, and they spend a relaxed day shopping for cowboy hats and boots and drinking in a honky-tonk bar. The conversation got more serious when she brought up her failed marriage, adamantly insisting that she's ready for a more successful round two.

For Nicki, a lot was on the line with this date -- she categorically refuses to marry anybody her family doesn't approve of. Luckily for Ben, her folks (who are also divorced) took to him instantly. After a sentimental conversation with her dad, she took Ben aside to gush, "After today, I'm in love with you." He doesn't have much of substance to say back to her, but lingers at their goodbye.

    Courtney Keeps Faking It

Courtney, who has consistently kept the show scandalous with her scathing commentary and sexually charged exploits, was clearly making an effort to show the audience that she's not really a villain. She expressed regret for the way she treated the other women on the show and made sure to mention her strong feelings for Ben repeatedly. After seven weeks of manipulation and malice, it's hard not to be skeptical.

After welcoming Ben into their Scottsdale, Arizona home, Courtney's mom was equally unconvinced upon meeting our Bachelor and said, "I'm not sold on it." She seemed to change her mind towards the end of the visit after a conversation with Courtney, where she was assured that her daughter's feelings were genuine. Courtney's dad didn't seem to have the same reservations and went so far as to mention his desire for grandkids.

We saw Courtney's scheming ways shine through again in the second part of the date, when the couple stumbled across a rustic wedding setup that was conveniently waiting for them. Courtney had planned an entire fake wedding, complete with vow books, rings, and a bow tie for the bemused Bachelor. To Ben's credit, he took it all in stride, coming up with some very sentimental vows on the spot. For Courtney, the phony nuptials were an elaborate frame for her important announcement -- that she's in love with Ben. Once again, Ben bought it.

    Ben Breaks a Heart
The stakes were higher than ever for the girls after having introduced Ben to their families, and Ben's decision at the rose ceremony was as shocking to us as it was to the woman he sent home. He called Courtney first, which rankled the other girls, and then doled out his roses to everybody but sweet Kacie B., who was visibly stunned. Everybody was surprised -- not only had their chemistry oozed off the screen every week, but Ben had shown no signs of becoming disenchanted with the Southern belle. The tense visit with her parents must have bothered him more than he let on.

To her credit, Kacie B. handled the dismissal with an incredible amount of poise and class for her age -- until she was in the limo and out of Ben's earshot. Her meltdown was one of the most painful in recent memory, and it was hard to watch her call herself stupid and not good enough. We're crossing our fingers that she'll be able to bounce back soon.

We apologize. An error has occurred. Please try again.

Kassie B was my choice from day one for him.....also the other two, Linzi and Nicki were the others I had kept my eye on thinking that they would be good. I cannot believe he is keeping Courtney in the top tier....she is conniving....and not very nice, and she will drop him at the final rose ceremony like a hot rock. I hope Linzi gets some modeling out of this and Nicki has a lot of personality, but this other one....sorry. Why do I even watch this silly show?

I'm with you on WHY AM I WATCHING THIS??? But it does SUCK you in. I thought Kassie B. was a truly sweet, genuine person and honestly tho, I'm glad he didn't pick her because she would have been the one that would be miserable.
I think he will end up picking Courtney but I don't think she will drop him, I think she will try to control him just as she has thruout the show. She's comes across to me as the "fatal attraction" type and it's gonna be her way. He said he didn't want a woman that couldn't make friends with others and well....he's already been warned a few times about her but you wait and see if he doesn't pick her!

Kacie B can do better, easily! Ben isn't anything special at all. I hope he picks Courtney, they are both losers.

wonder how such amazing people as you say could raise a daughter who would want to compete for one guy on national TV....

Kacie is young and sweet and a total doll, she will find someone closer to her own age and will be deliriously happy. she's only 24,too young to give up. But her parents' disapproval is what drove Ben away. I hope he picked Courtney, and after seeing what a total beeeyotch she's been on national TV, (not to mention skinny-dipping with him and going topless--what a classy woman, NOT!) he dumped her.

Personally, I would've preferred a new bachelor. Get some new people on this show instead of bringing them back for a new season. Wasn't crazy about Ben before so if he is shallow enough that he ends up with Courtney he deserves what he gets. Don't care who he ends up with at this point-I'd rather spend my time watching "The Voice".

Ill be watching the voice next week instead of flipping between the 2 shows. I love Blake.

Courtney's apologies to the other girls in the house must have been edited in later to make her appear "nicer" or "sweeter". You didn't actually see the apology come out of her mouth. They had their exchanged fake wedding rings on at dinner yet showed that they went to the park after dinner.....poor editing proves that reality shows are so fake....and no longer about the "love story" anymore.

He will probably choose Courtney... all of the shows "editing" making her personality be singled out is probably to stir up things when she wins. I just hope she convinces him to chop his goofy hair before they split up soon after the proposal :)

Kacie B was a sweetheart but it was sad seeing her come down on herself over a fool like Ben. She deserves better than that little boy who spends more time thinking with the head between his legs ( why else would he still have Courtney around?) than he does with the one he has on his shoulders.

Courtney? REALLY? she is so fake, back stabbing, two faced liar. She's always touching her hair or scratching her head, does she have fleas or something? Doing the skinny dipping thing with Ben tells you what type of person she is. If she gets picked by Ben, she will never be happy, she will always be going after someone else behind his back. Lindzi & Nicki are my favorites. Come on Ben, wake up!!!

What's with his greasy, nasty, unkept hair style???

I cannot believe he is stupid enough to stick with Courtney, however, as they say"Men think with their sex organ" She is obnoxious and mean and to think he said he wanted a girl that would connect with his hometown involvement and family. Courtney won't like any of them and when the lust and thrill of winning wear off, she's gone@!!!! Kaci B was mIss right just like a man, doesn't know a good thing when he see's it!! Just when he see's it (that's in clothes). He is sickening me with his much too do about nothing. I really liked him before, but not so much after seeing him pick Courtney!!

This guy isn't looking for love, he is looking for lust. With Courtney, he found it. Everyone has that one person, He just happens to find that one crazy phsycopath. I wish him all the best.

The remaining women should run now, Ben is going to pick psycho-Courtney who is only interested in 'camera time'

The Bachelor Programming script creator should be ashamed of the script they have written for this program. There was a time when there was not so many hateful people. Is it necessary to have this ugly behavior of the women? Maybe this is why the couples never stay together - how many actual marriages have come out of your program? The Director/Producer should try to write a script with love and romance which is not slutty. All the kissing, bearing their birthday suit, etc. isn't necessary. Remember that it is better to leave certain things to the imagination rather than make them explicit. Maybe if you put some class into your next episode, the girl and her find will be a real happening and stay together. Why not try it - it will still have people watching.

I don't know what's going on this season. Ben is a goob. A total creep! Like any of these girls would really even look twice at him. This is such a set up. The other Bachelors at least were nice looking.

I would have loved to see Kacie B as the next bachelorette rather than Emily. I'm wondering if they asked her and she turned it down because generally they don't get bachelorettes from earlier seasons.
