The ratings for the Season 2 premiere were down from the Season 1 premiere by more than 2 million viewers. Renewal has yet to be announced for a third season of the show, and some fans are wondering if "Major Crimes" will even get another season.
If "Major Crimes" could lock down a few key guest stars for Season 3, it would go a long way toward increasing interest in the show and boosting viewership. Here are four actors that should be tapped to star in Season 3, if the show gets renewed.
Edward James Olmos
"Major Crimes" star Mary McDonnell wowed fans several years back with her performance of cancer-ridden President Laura Roslin on "Battlestar Galactica." Roslin's tempestuous romance with Admiral Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) was one of the most compelling aspects of the series.
Bringing Olmos on for a recurring role on "Major Crimes" would attract fans of "Battlestar Galactica," a potential demographic that may have been overlooked. Whether Olmos plays a love interest or a professional rival of McDonnell's, the two would definitely have great chemistry.
Best known as forensic expert Vince Masuka on "Dexter," many TV fans have noticed a resemblance between Lee and "Major Crimes" star Michael Paul Chan. With "Dexter" done in just a few weeks, Lee will be in need of a new acting gig soon, and "Major Crimes" could suit him just fine.
Lee could guest star as Lt. Tao's estranged brother, brought in to consult on a big case. Bonus points if the case relates to Lee's "Dexter" role in some way -- perhaps a serial killer who only kills serial killers?
Kyra Sedgwick (and Corey Reynolds)
"The Closer" ended with Kyra Sedgwick's Brenda Leigh Johnson taking a job at the DA's office. David Gabriel (Corey Reynolds) left with Brenda. Bringing the two of them back for the Season 3 premiere would re-engage fans of "The Closer" who haven't been regular viewers of "Major Crimes."
You know there would be some intense moments between Sedgwick and McDonnell. Plus, fans could learn what Gabriel has been up to since "The Closer" ended. Has he been promoted since he left?
Bringing back the star of "The Closer" is a smart path toward boosting the audience size of the spinoff series.
