5 Things You Don't Know About Katharine McPhee

Known for her girl-next-door looks and powerful singing voice, this American Idol runner-up is back on TV appearing in NBC's new musical/comedy Smash. Here are five things you may not know about Katharine McPhee.

1. Born March 25, 1984 in Los Angeles, her father is a TV producer and her mother a voice coach.

2. Grew up in the same neighborhood as her House Bunny co-star Anna Faris, but the two never met until filming began.

3. Loves classical music and opera and has performed and recorded with famed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

4. When asked once whether she watches the show that made her famous, the American Idol alum told InStyle magazine, "I'd rather watch the Lakers."

5. Founded the charity McPhee Outreach, which teams up with other organizations on projects such as improving education in Africa and combating malaria.

Welp, she has a right to her opinion. Idol clearly robbed her, thanx to the machinations of the "Soul Patrol" (BTW, what's Taylor Hicks doing these days? Anything worth talking about?). She should, however, be grateful for the exposure AI gave her. But the best revenge is success, and she CLEARLY has found success...

That's a mean snark towards Idol. Be happy. If you hadn't gotten on that show, you would be nowhere....................................... I still don't get why they try to make a big deal out of this girl.

  Because she has an incredible voice...and she has a right to be bitter with Idol since America snubbed her for Hicks. Plus who can blame her for not watching that trash. I pretty much quit caring about that show after the season she was on...Daughtry obviously has most success from that group. But she is actually a good actress, Smash is awesome and she's great in it!
