It is quite interesting that even though ABC/Disney cancelled "All My Children," they are allowing another one of their shows to honor not only the show, the cast, but the history of the show. They are even planning on filling the audience with "All My Children" fans. Of course, the show that is doing the honoring is "The View." This is also the show that they have been using to help to promote the lifestyle show that will be replacing "All My Children" the following Monday.
It seems like ABC likes using "The View" for a lot of reasons. They use it to promote their hit television show "Dancing With The Stars," and now they are possibly using it to pacify angry soap opera fans.
What do they have in store for soap opera fans during this presentation? According to tvguide.com, it will be an amazing show. First, Susan Lucci, aka Erica Kane, will be the cohost for the day. She will be joining the regular cast that day: Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. There was no mention about Barbara being on the show, not that anyone will be missing her. This day is about "All My Children" and the fans will be more interested in what Susan has to say, anyway.
The guest stars will include: the creator of "All My Children," the great Agnes Nixon, actors from the show: Cameron Mathison (Ryan); Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) and Vincent Irizarry (David). Plus, many surprise drop in visit from actors who have been on the show from the past to the present.
There will also be lots of footage from the show, including taping from the last day. This means there will be a lot of moments that will make the fans smile and weep. For this reason, we better get our tissues ready.
The show will air on the "All My Children's" final air date: September 23. Now the question, you may wonder is why is ABC doing this?
They are doing this to look good. They want the publicity. They want people to think that they aren't the bad guys. They want you to commend them on honoring Susan, Agnes and the great actors who kept us captivated for over 40 years.
They want to you to reconsider watching their shows. They want to you to start watching "The View" again. They want you to say look how nice those ladies are being to our favorite stars, we should give them another chance. They want you to give their new replacement show a chance. They need and want your ratings.
They want you to forget. They want you to forget that they were the ones who cancelled this show. They want you to forget they cancelled Erica Kane.
Will they get their wish? After watching this show, will you forget?
