ABC Gives Pilot Order To Comedy ‘Trophy Wife’

EXCLUSIVE: ABC has handed out a cast-contingent pilot order to Trophy Wife, a half-hour single-camera written and executive produced by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins and executive produced by Bad Teacher scribes Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky (NBC’s The Office). The two writing teams have separate overall deals at ABC Studios, which is producing the project. Trophy Wife centers on reformed party girl Kate, who finds herself with an insta-family when she falls in love with a man with three manipulative kids and two judgmental ex-wives. The comedy was originally developed at ABC and ABC Studios last season.

Halpern and Haskins wrote the feature script Book Smart, which was optioned by Fox, as well as the Universal script Lunch Lady and New Line’s Work Wife. WME-repped Halpern started in TV, writing for ABC’s Private Practice and CBS’ The Unit. UTA-repped Haskins wrote and starred in Current TV’s SuperNews and Infomania. Both are managed by Circle of Confusion. This is the second pilot order for Eisenberg and Stupinsky this summer. They co-wrote with Stephen Merhcant and executive produce the HBO comedy pilot Hello Ladies, now casting. The duo is repped by WME and Mosaic. The order to Trophy Wife comes on the heels of ABC geenlighting a new pilot for comedy Kings Of Van Nuys, also originally developed last season.
