Fans of Showtime's macabre series "Dexter" may have noticed something funny about the recent episode "This Little Piggy." After a few seasons of acting as a nanny for Dexter's son, Jamie and Dexter have started acting like an old married couple. They spent much of the episode squabbling over a dinner party Jamie was trying to organize, even bickering while packing Harrison's lunch.
Jamie and Dexter are far from the first platonic duo to quibble like an old married couple. From sitcoms to sci-fi, these duos all fight like old married couples … but they aren't married at all!
Denny Crane and Alan Shore of "Boston Legal"
To be fair, these two do get married in the series finale, but not for romantic reasons. Throughout the run of "Boston Legal," Denny and Alan were famous for sitting on the balcony and smoking cigars, while also bickering bitterly at times. In one episode, Denny catches Alan sharing their "special time" with Jerry, and reacts as though Alan were cheating on him.
The Doctor and River Song of "Doctor Who"
In the nail-biting episode "Forest of the Dead," the Doctor and River Song have an epic fight. One character even notes that the pair are "squabbling like an old married couple." Because the two are time travelers who never meet in the right chronological order, the Doctor doesn't realize that he will one day marry River … but River does!
Shawn and Gus of "Psych"
Shawn and Gus fight like an old married couple in every episode. Shawn gives Gus pet names that Gus can't stand, and the two constantly fight over pop culture and incidents from their shared past. Gus is prone to elbowing or slapping Shawn when he gets too annoying.
Xena and Gabrielle of "Xena: Warrior Princess"
Xena and Gabrielle's close relationship had many fans wondering just how close these two warrior women were. It didn't help that Xena and Gabrielle were prone to squabbling in the manner of a couple!
Frasier and Martin of "Frasier"
Frasier and his dad bicker constantly, with the infamous green plaid chair being the most common source of antagonism between the two. In one episode, "Bla-Z-Boy," Frasier realizes he's been living with his dad far longer than he's lived with any of his wives or girlfriends. When Roz says that the two of them bicker like an old married couple, Frasier totally loses his temper.
Daphne also argued with Martin frequently, and their interactions also sounded like the two were an old married couple.
