There is a long-standing rule in comic books that states, "Nobody truly stays dead except for Spider-Man's Uncle Ben and Batman's parents." Superman, Captain America, Jean Grey, Bucky Barnes, Flash, and Batman are just a handful of characters that did not stay dead in the printed pages. That being said, there is no reason to believe Agent Phil Coulson had his final death in "The Avengers." He would be an interesting addition to the proposed Marvel Universe TV show.
How?
There are multiple ways Marvel could explain how Agent Coulson is still alive after his apparent demise in "The Avengers." Clones, reality shifts, time shifts, wishes, spells, cover-ups, and many other fantastic tactics have been used by comic book publishers to explain how characters did not actually die when everyone believed their final bow had been taken. There are also numerous characters in the Marvel Universe that can bring someone back from the dead so the possibilities are endless for how the agent could be brought back. Why?
Marvel announced that fans should not expect the major stars from the movies to make appearances on the show. Agent Coulson is a well-liked character who is not one of the top-line stars and could add an extra level of continuity between the show and the movies. One of the ideas being batted around by Marvel and ABC is about having a show based on Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson is the most familiar face of the organization outside of Fury so the familiarity would be a starting point for fans of the new show. There has been a push from fans to bring the character back to life, and publishers love to make the fans happy. In the end, fans rarely care how a character they love is brought back as long as he or she is brought back. What capacity?
On "Ultimate Spider-Man," Agent Coulson is the direct supervisor of the superheroes on the show and could be used in the same capacity on a S.H.I.E.L.D. show. He could make appearances on behalf organization on another type of show just like he did in the first Iron Man movie. He could even star in the show in an attempt to make it a true spin-off of the movie series. There are myriads of ways he could be used, and they should make fans happy since his character would be utilized instead of becoming the victim of the Grim Reaper.More from this Contributor:
