Agent Prentiss Seems Poised to Leave 'Criminal Minds'

Now into the second half of its sixth season, "Criminal Minds" has come a long way. And whether or not fans agreed, several changes were made, such as actress A.J. Cook being cut from the cast. Unfortunately, Paget Brewster has also been cut, but luckily she's starring in the majority of season six's episodes. Still, one might wonder how the show will cut her character of Agent Prentiss.

    SPOILERS!

"Sense Memory," episode 6.14 of season six, debuted on Feb. 9.

"Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they're in the game."- Paul Rodriguez (comedian)

The above quote rings particularly true with Agent Prentiss. She begins to fear for her life when a man that she helped put in jail named Ian Doyle is released from prison.

The next day, the team is taken to Los Angeles to investigate the death of three victims who were drowned in methanol and transported to a random dump sight. The killer also took a piece of each victim's skin from under the foot. Eventually the BAU profile the man as being 20 to 40 years old, intelligent and anti-social, while Reid suggests the man might be interested in science as methanol is frequently used in science projects.

We discover that the killer is a taxi driver who is somewhat peculiar, and particular about who he lets into his cab. His demeanor, though more reclusive, echoed the line from "Taxi Driver": "Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets." We then see him subdue his next victim with some sort of chloroform being sprayed from his taxi, until he takes her to his humble abode, where he listens to his own voice echoing commands on a tape recorder ("The scent of a woman must be preserved...")

After linking the killer to taxi cabs, the agents find the man's address, rescue his next victim, and a car chase ensues in which the killer's cab crashes.

As Prentiss receives a mysterious flower in the mail, the episode ends with this quote: "Nothing revives the past so completely as a smell that was once associated with it."- Vladimir Nabokov (novelist)

"Today I Do," episode 6.15, aired on Feb. 16. I'm not going to focus so much on this episode's content (as I found it lacking), but rather on what happens with Agent Prentiss.

"It's hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your head."- Sally Kempton

The team goes to Syracuse to investigate a missing woman after several victims are found stabbed to death. Detectives learn the missing woman had a female roommate, and the woman herself was dealing with anorexia/bulimia issues. It's learned that the suspect is a cutter who, after being orphaned, lost control and tries to reestablish this control by "saving" other women. They end up finding her right before she drowns the missing woman.

In this episode, we learn that Prentiss worked under the name Lauren Reynolds when she helped put away Ian Doyle, and Doyle was made to believe Reynolds died in a car accident. After discovering her friend Jeremy, died (another man in danger from Doyle) and getting a text from an unknown caller saying "see you soon," Prentiss is obviously shaken. The episode ends with Ian Doyle exiting a plane, and this quote: "There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul." - E.W. Wilcox

So, it looks like Agent Prentiss will be leaving the show because her life is in danger, although the question remains if the show will "kill" her character, or if she'll go into protective custody (although as an FBI agent already, I wonder how that works). What are your thoughts?

(I'll also be including the following section below in future articles, for kicks.)

What we Learned from these Episodes of "Criminal Minds":

    - If someone's trying to break into your house, booby trap every possible opening by putting something breakable on its edge, so when the intruder comes in, you'll hear their entrance.

    - Methanol can kill someone if enough of it is absorbed through their skin.

    - If a taxi driver doesn't want to take you somewhere, don't hassle him.

We apologize. An error has occurred. Please try again.
