EXCLUSIVE: After exploring 1960s New York City with Mad Men and the Nebraska territory circa 1865 with Hell On Wheels, AMC is heading to Colonial Boston for a comedy project, now in development. Titled We Hate Paul Revere, it is written and executive produced by writer-actors Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner (Whitney). It centers on two brothers living in Colonial Boston who are not fans of local industrialist and activist Paul Revere.
Sandler and Wenner, repped by UTA and Thruline, have been writing and performing together since meeting at Northwestern University. Their play Epitaph, directed by Betsy Thomas, won awards at the HBO Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe festival. After establishing its original brand with drama series, AMC has been quietly looking to expand into comedy. (Over the past two years, the network successfully added unscripted programming to the mix.) AMC is yet to pick up its first half-hour scripted series, with its few development efforts in the arena including a Rob Roy Thomas comedy presentation last fall.
